If you want to permenantly straighten your hair, get it relaxed at a salon and it will remove 80% of the curl or wave. If you do this, youll have to get the relaxer applied to your roots every so often just like hair color, because your roots will be naturally curly like your hair was before.

If you still want to be able to wear it curly sometimes, just buy a good quality flat iron and in thin sections, flat iron your hair from scalp to ends. Once you wash your hair it'll return to normal. Hair must be 100% dry before you flat iron it, and dont be cheap when buying a flat iron. You'll notice that a $40 iron will progressively no longer heat up as hot as it did when you bought it. Buy a flat iron that allows you to adjust the temperature, because fine hair doesnt need as much heat and coarse hair needs much more heat. Using too much heat can damage your hair, and not using enough wont get your hair straight. You might also want to get some thermal protecting spray so that the heat will damage your hair even less.

My hair is of average thickness; its curly in high humidity, wavy in normal humidity, and straight-ish in low humidity. Here's what works for me.

Stuff You'll Need
1. A Solia flat iron. (All flat irons claim to be professional. The Solia actually is. Like the Sedu--which might be better but costs too much for me--the Solia is made of tourmaline, a gemstone that is even safer than ceramic on your hair. They're $88 on Folica.com and have a 1 yr. warrenty. I always recommend them.)
2. A heat-protectant. These are styling products that protect your hair from damage and make it straighter/less frizzy. CHI Silk Infusion and Redken Smooth Down Heat Glide get stellar reviews, but are kinda' $$$. You can get something cheaper if you want.
3. A hair drier (optional)
4. Either a flat, paddle-shaped brush or a round brush about the circumference of a soda can. These should be made from real bristles. Plastic bristles are cheaper but don't get hair as straight. I prefer using a round brush. They make it easy for me to hold my hair straight out while I blow dry.
5. A wide-toothed comb.
6. Those hair clips that look like they have teeth.

Steps to Straight Hair
1. Shower. You'll want to start with clean hair that doesn't have a lot of product build-up. But if you want to use normal or deep conditioner sometimes, that's fine.
2. Let your hair air-dry until its damp. Then spread the heat-protection styling product through your hair. Use a little extra on the ends.
3. Squeeze out any extra water. Run the brush through a section of hair so that your hair is taunt, then relax. This is how I do the front. You don't have to be constantly pulling the hair. Just keep the ends wrapped around the brush. Aim your blow drier *down* the length of the hair--keep the nozzle moving to avoid burning your hair. To dry the back and sides, flip your head upside down and comb all your hair forward so that it hangs over your forehead. Keep the nozzle pointed down and dry all the wet hair. Comb it occassionally as you do this to stop the strands from blowing everywhere. When you're hair is almost dry, switch to cold air to seal the style.
4. Pin your hair into sections. There are lots of ways to do it. I pin most my hair to the top of my head, leaving the front and back down. I flat-iron these and pin or tie them behind my neck. Next, I let the rest of my hair down. Then I pin half of my hair to the top right part of my head. I use my fingers to pick out sections of wavy hair and flat iron them. After I flat iron the section, I pin it to the top left part of my head. Once all the hair on my left side, is straight, I do the same to my right. And I'm done!

P.S.-->I don't expect you to follow this method exactly! This is just what works for me (and it actually does work....)

Flat irons work wonders.
There's one called 'Chi' but it's pretty expensive [100+] but drugstores sell other brands that work.
