Was wondering if anyone knows the proper term for the pain one gets in their hair folicles from lightly rubbing the head. Like if you have your hair fixed a certain way for a long time or if you sleep on it funny and try to move the hair, it hurts your scalp. I experience this almost every day, it's quite painful sometimes; could it be because my hair is so long?
Please tell me what this is called.

My hair is just past my waist, in very good condition though.

Also, I almost never wear my hair in a ponytail or up or anything. Just in a loose braid once in a while. So the pain isn't caused by clips or scrunchies.

I had the same thing....but it could have nothing to do with your hair. If I lightly rubbed my head it felt sore and irritating like i didnt want to touch it. Turned out i had sinus trouble....weird right? But its true. If it keeps happening go to the doctor.

There's no word for it that I know of, but I know what you mean. If my hair is in a ponytail or another style that starts to hurt my scalp or give me a headache, I let my hair down immediately or put it under a baseball cap. Some people actually lose a significant amount of hair from tight braids, pony-tails, etc. I'm not sure, but I think that kind of hair loss is called tetrogenic alopecia.

I've also heard that long, heavy hair can give you a headache. But I always throught that headaches caused by long hair feel like regular headaches......I've never heard of long hair causing scalp pain.

You might try leaving your hair down more often (not tying/clipping it up for a long time) or *gasp*, even try cutting your hair and seeing if that helps.......
