Took my dog to the vet about 3 weeks ago. He had revolution put on him, had a shot and he takes pills every other day. So far it seems like it has work some what, althought i did see one on his head ther other day i tried to catch the little bastard but it was too fast. My dog has stop itching like crazy so i guess he is a somewhat ok now.

Now the problem im faced with is getting the fleas out the house. I have hardwood floors and i mop with bleach and pine sole and each time i see a bunch of em just floating in the water. I also use that expensive spray that the vet sold me and claimed that it would kill the flease up to 7 months. Today i even went as far as to vacum my bare floors(yes i did..poor vac). And i wash clothes and bedding. Thing is i just dont feel as if im going to ever get rid of the those bastards. Any suggestions on what i can do?

Also any suggestions on getting rid of scars from flea bites would be helpful. They have made a freaking meal out of me.

Fleas are a nasty thing to have. The best way is breaking the cycle. Fleas can BITE people, but they can't LIVE on people...so the fleas coming off your pet will hang around and bite you until they die...your best bet is to flea bomb your home. I am a groomer and my recommendation for flea control is as follows-

Take your pet to the groomer and let the groomer deflea them. Leave your pet there as long as possible for the day so you can treat your home.

Get some flea powder and sprinkle under the cushions of your furniture...wash your pet's bedding in bleach.

Go to your pet supply store and get flea bombs- canisters of chemical flea killer. The label will instruct you how many you will need for your floor area. Set them off and leave your home for the day. If you have other pets in the home, like birds-remove them to a different location-and cover fishtanks with a blanket or plastic.

When you go back home, the fleas should be dead, your pet deflea-d and then you apply your revolution, frontline or whatever.

Be warned that your pet doesn't even need to go outside or even have contact with another pet to get fleas. They can hitch a ride on YOU.

your couches sweety! Vacuum the couches! mattress, and vacuuming the hardwood floors isnt silly! I do that all the time it keeps the dust from flying around in the air... get this... set a bucket of water and soap on the floor and put a lamp shining down onto the bucket (like the computer lights). the fleas are attracted to the heat coming from the lamp and fall into the soapy water (just put something around the bucket so that your doggy doesnt drink the water) =) and see about using the spray on the couches and where your dog lays all the time... and get something to treat your yard!! everytime your pup goes outside it seems like hes bringing in more... so the main problem is from an infestation outside ( i hope this works!)

Make sure you treat your dog with that Revolution monthly to keep him covered.

Fleas can be hard to get out of the environment - not all sprays do what they say they do. They can live and breed in the gaps of your wooden floor. Which spray did you get from the vet? I would suggest trying to get hold of Skoosh Flea spray - your vet will be able to order it in if they don't stock it. This stuff coats the fleas, eggs and larvae in silicone and so suffocates them - it's pesticide free and is one of the few that actually does deal with the eggs. Try it.

I don't know about professional exterminators, they don't always seem to work and really I don't see that they would have access to any chemicals that vets wouldn't.

Do not waste your money on flea bombs. The poison sprays in the air, and by the time it gets into the carpet, it looses a lot of its potency. I have used them to no avail. That expensive spray didnt work for me either. It said it would keep them away for 7 months, but it was more like 7 minutes.

I vacumed my house every day, and used the powder. Both my dog and cat are treated, and finally, after months, I think we got them. Just dont loose faith. Eventually, you will win.

Human grade Diatomaceous Earth - it's powder, easy to use and safe if injested by your dog. Don't buy the kind sold at the garden center or hardware store. Sprinkle it everywhere, around the baseboards, carpets, floors, etc., leave over night, repeat in about 5 days. Hopefully this will help, good luck.

Flea bombs are sometimes the only thing you can resort to. I hate them and they get on everything, but if you are really have that much trouble it may also be that your yard is infested. You should start from the yard inward. There are things such as ground fleas and grease fleas. It may not be your dog at all. Get some really strong outside dusting for fleas for your yard and see if that helps.

My vet told me to use Raid Flea spray. She said that she had some expensive stuff I could buy from her, but the Raid works better. (Price does not equal quality.)

Vacuuming bare floors is not crazy. More than likely they could be down in the cracks between the boards (if there are any.) In fact it might actually be recommended.

Remember to spray in the hard to reach places. IN the couch, under furniture, around baseboards (anywhere there may be cracks) under the fridge/washer/drier, window sills, you get the idea.

Good luck.

I would call a pesticide company to come spray your house and yard. I use Cooks pest control and no longer have problems with fleas. The chemicals they use do not harm children or pets so there is no worrying in that department and it is not expensive at all.

I haven't had the problem myself but have heard over and over that Borax soap is the best and cheapest. Its sold at Walmart in the laundry soap aisle. You can wash clothes and bedding in it. sprikle it on the base boards and then vacuum/sweep it up later. The fleas are going after you because the dog is no longer safe.

Diatomaceous earth on your lawn.

And they have a Pill that works for 3 days that will kill anything that touches your dog. Otherwise, the shot lasts 4 months.

glue traps around a desk lamp on the floor works too.
