the catholic church identifies confession as one of its seven sacraments. It is a blessed event that has to be taken with reflection and taken extremely serious. Prior to Vatican II, confession was conducted in the sanctity of a church confessional where the priest and the person confessing their sins did not see each other. Currently, a confession can be heard as in the confessional or in a face to face contact. The priest can only absolve one of their sins when they are in presence, not over the phone or im. The church is strict on that. Penance is given as well as absolution by a priest or deacon. It must be solemn and in presence.

Yes, in person, although it can be done face-to-face or with a screen between. It can be one's own parish priest or a person may visit another priest at a monastery or another parish. Parishes often bring in visiting priests for special penance ceremonies during Lent and Advent.

Confession (Sacrament of Reconciliation) must be done in person, so the Priest can know for sure that you are not forced or coerced into confessing, and to make sure that it is private.

It has to be in person. I think it so that the priest can best hear that you do repent, and are not afraid to do so. The priest cannot see your face during confession unless you allow him to, so don't worry.

That depends on the confession. The church believes you should confess at church. One, its more personal. You are more likely to say what is really bothering you. Its God you need to be talking to anyway. The last I checked, he was in....And avaliable.

No, you can make a true confession in prayer. Not all Catholics go to confession on a regular basis. I have been told by my priest that if the confession is from the heart, it can be between you and God.

Well... I suppose Only if the Priest had a Phone [ cell ] in the Confessional!

As A Born Again Christian... I go directly to GOD.... through Jesus Christ...!

The Bible... says there.... " IS NO... MIDDLE..MAN !"

(1Timothy 2:5) For God is one, and there is one Mediator of God and of men, the Man Christ Jesus,

AND....

(1John 1:5-to-10) And this is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.

(1Jo 1:6) If we say that we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

(1Jo 1:7) But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

(1Jo 1:8) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

(1Jo 1:9) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(1Jo 1:10) If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us.

HOPE.... that Helps... you to see... The Big PICTURE ABOUT... GOD ?

Thanks for Asking! RR
