It used to be 3, but now even as early as 6-8 months they may be able to find something out. When a baby stops babbling or talking when they have been in the past that is an indication of problems. A friend of mine was a nanny for a baby from age 3-6 months. When she came back from her maternity leave when he was 8 months he was not making any babbling noises, or looking anyone in the eye. I believe she said he was 18 months when he was fianlly diagnosed though.

It depends. If U find yourself the right kind of doctor,it has been detected as early as 15 months after the child was born. The good thing about that is,the sooner the diagnosis, the sooner treatment can begin and hopefully more likely the better outcome the child with autism will end up having.

It can be diagnosed well before the first birthday now. I know a couple who suspected their son might have autism when he was about 10 months old, and a therapist confirmed their fears. He was officially diagnosed when he was about 15 months old.
Aren't you the same one who was worried about her baby's social skills awhile back? Poor dear - I hope Grandma still isn't scaring you out of your mind with her intrusive comments! Please don't worry about your little one. And if you can't stop worrying, and/or Grandma continues to make comments, have your daughter evaluated. I'm sure she's fine, but getting a specialist to confirm it will put your mind at ease and shut Grandma's mouth.

18 months is the youngest. Although signs are there earlier than this, most clinical psychologists will wait until 18 months to be sure.
