IF you have no spark and the rotor turns while the motor turns, you have to check for power and pulse ground to the ignition coil. Locate the white wire that is attached to the primary side of the ignition coil. With the ignition on, there should be steady power to this wire while it is still connected to the coil. When the motor is cranked, this wire should be pulsed to ground by the ignition module. The ignition module gets it's input from the crank sensor. You will have to check this stuff to see where the circuit is open or grounded.

Did you check to see if the rotor is actually turning when the engine is cranked? A loud bang is a good sign that something metal broke. The distributor is gear driven off of the camshaft (usually) via the oil pump. If this gear or the oil pump broke it will not allow the distributor shaft to turn. Therefore not distributing the HV to the plugs.

Sounds like timing chain broke. Take the rotor cap off...turn engine over and see if the rotor turns. If it doesn't...chain is gone.

Alternator? Crack out your ohmmeter and check for a charge. My alternator went in my 98 Jimmy, it was about $350 to fix.
