My boyfriend left to the Air Force basic training last Monday, and i have yet to receive that "short call" they are allowed. I decided to look up information on my own, and it said that by Sunday afternoon, they would get to call home to provide us will the mailing address. Does it depend on their Instructor when they get to call? and can the period before calling be extended longer than the first week of stay?

Ive already spoken with his parents. They told me I would be the first he calls and to please transfer the information to them. Im just unsure whether this happens to most trainees.

When I went through we were allowed one 5 minute call within the first 48 hours. After that we had chances to call, but nothing on a regular basis. The first week or two of training is the most restricted and as time goes on he will have more chances to call home. Usually the time is limited though so he will have to chose between you and his family when he does get to call. If you are that close to him maybe his parents will call you and tell you how he is and give you his mailing address to write him. It will be much easier staying in touch by mail.

It is completely up to the MTI when the flight will get to call home. They usually get to by atleast the Sunday of Zero week. However I remember we got our first phone call that Sunday, yet, our brother flight didn't get their call until well into their first week (which would be after being there 7+ days). Trust me, he will get to call theres just never a guarantee of when. Just make sure you're by the phone or atleast have a voicemail, nothing is more disappointing that trying to call home and not getting anyone. Also, he probably will not have a lot of time to write home ( I know we didnt get a lot of time at all, we were lucky if we got 5 mins at the end of the night to read/write letters home...the only time I even really got to write home is when I sneaked the letters..) However, write him daily. I don't care if you have nothing to talk about except the weather. I had my family write me everyday and it helped me make it through Basic because it reminded me that Basic was only temporary and the real world was still out there. Everything will be ok.

Back in the day when I went through basic (in the dinosaur days), we had to fill out a post card to Mom the night we arrived and didn't get a phone call for some weeks into basic.

I'm sure there's no time directly set aside so it depends on when time permits. Don't worry, hon, he'll get his call but, as you already know, it'll be short and sweet. He's pretty busy right now but I'm sure he'll call your or his folks at the first opportunity.

is he planning on calling you, or will he be calling a family member? they are only allowed the one call.

calls are NOT guaranteed, it is entirely possible that he will not be permitted to call at all, and would have to mail you the address in a letter.

He probably won't use that one call to call you... my boyfriend called his parents... don't worry... depending on which flight he's in you'll probably get a letter sometime around the halfway mark. they also get another chance to call(sometimes) at the halfway mark.

good luck
