Most websites don't use the Real Player formats for their media, but if it's not taking up muck disk space, I say leave it on. The one time you'll want to watch/listen to something that requires it, you'll have to reinstall it.

I totally agree with you...Real Player is not very used...I decided to uninstall mine many years back and never looked back...but once in a while (maybe 1 in 50 sites) will have a choice for it...but for a site to actually NEED it? maybe 1 in 1000 that i've seen. So if you uninstall it (which i recommend) then you shouldnt have any troubles....

Maybe you should install Media Player classic...It isn't as fancy looking as the newest Windows Media Player (since it is based on the old Windows media player 6 look) but it has Real Player, Quicktime, and Windows Media Player full support with all the latest codecs required for all movies and streaming online (except flash of course)...This is what i have installed on my computer and so although i dont have Real Player anymore i do have support for its video/audio playback as a codec supported by my Media Player....

Much of the content on the BBC website relies solely on Real Player, especially if you use the BBC Radio Player 'Listen Again' service, there is no alternative,so Real Player is an absolute must for me.

Real Player 11 is not good, although it is still in Beta form, hopefully it will improve.

In there mean time the best option is Real Player 10.5

Some things will require Real Player..... Most of the time Media Player takes care of everything - but some things require Quicktime - so you download it.... and same with Real Player.

You don't need to download Real Media Player or Quicktime Player. Avoid both. Use "Realplayer Alternative" and "Quicktime Alternative" instead.

it's a horrendous piece of software, one of the worst i've ever encountered - try 'real alternative' instead:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/real_alternative.cfm

it will play all of the real player video and audio formats, but without all the rubbish and such that comes with real player.
