I have known my boyfriend for 5 years. We have been dating for 1 1/2. We both joined the military around 3 months after we started dating. We both went in as PFC's but now i am about to be an NCO while he is still a PFC. He is an active duty soldier and i am a reservist. He is stationed in Korea and im in the US. He believes that when I become an NCO we will not ba able to date anymore? I have been told it is ok as long as we arent in the same unit. Is that true???

There is no rule keeping you from dating. One could be a PFC and the other a first sergeant and there is nothing agaisnt it.

What could be wrong was if one was the others supevisor. But this still doesnt keep you from dating. it just means one of the two woul dhave to change duty positions in order to not present a conflict of interest.

Do not worry. There is nothing illegal about it.

Im in the Air Force but its basically the same thing. Like its ok for me to date/marry someone who is enlisted, whatever the rank may be (I have a friend who is an Amn and she just married a SSgt). My ex is now an officer, and i am enlisted, but because we were dating before either of us were in the military, we could get married/date. If we had met while we are both in, then its a no-no. Also as long as the person is not directly in your chain of command, it doesnt matter. Thats just how the Air Force is, im not sure about ARMY but im pretty sure its the same because i have a lot of friends in the ARMY,

You two were dating before you joined so you should be fine. You are not allowed to be in his chain of command or in his unit. It would be the same as if I was dating a LCPL and then became an officer a few months or years later. I wouldn't go around parading it, but they can't do anything about it unless it affects your job performance or the links in the chain of command.

you have a pre existing relationship. You will be fine, but yes, you cannot be in the same chain of command.

The guy above is correct, it doesn't matter as long as there is not a supervisory chain involved.
