There is nothing wrong with marking up a Bible for study, it is desecration of the Bible that is wrong.

That really is a good question. I remember when my grandparents wouldn't even let us near the family Bible to touch it. As a result, as a kid, I never knew what was in it, and in fact, nobody else did either.

Myself, I underline and mark my Bibles all the time! The actual book is not holy, God's Word is holy. You might just go through the Bible and mark all the Salvation scriptures in one color. That way, when you see a marking, you will know the subject. My students now mark their Bibles also. So, go make your Bible your own. Make it comfortable - it's yours.
Blessings.

The Bible is a book....it is his words that are Holy. I have underlined my bible,,written things on the front and back pieces to remind me of certain things...it is used and it shows it. I still have the same one, I had from the beginning...it is a Gideon bible from a hotel room. It is not fancy or leather covered...I covered it in the material I was wearing when I was baptized....I had my own baptism clothes on,,,we didn't have robes...small church...no pomp and circumstance.....I love my bible and it is the first thing, I packed to take with me,,,when the Hurricane hit...I hope someone, someday, will still use it,,,

the bible is our past, present, and future. Its our guide. A help tool so to speak. So it is not wrong to underline anything or highlight it. When doing bible study. It is easier to find passages and verses. You might want to get Strong's cor dance bible. It is written in the Greek, Hebrew and Arabic. Translated over to English.

Not a thing. I have a bible that is about 20 years old and It's marked up and underlined etc.

Of course you don't want to disrespect it in anyway, but the book itself is not what is important. What IS important is the message it contains.

I underline and highlight and write things on the pages. I am sure God is happy every time I seek Him through His Word. : )

The Bible doesn't say anything about marking in it, It would probably be welcomed if it increased your Knowledge and memory. I'm sure God appreciates your willingness to learn his word and will reward you for your efforts. GOD BLESS!!

What it says is to consider the message day and night. To read in an undertone or strongly consider God's word.

If you can do that with memory alone---WOW!!! The rest of us have to get by anyway we can. Color highlighting is one of the best. Sharpie retractable highlighters are my choice.

Underlining is fine. Defacing is something quite different.
