All Princess ships have a fully equipped hospital they could test for an infection and treat it BUT they would not know 100% that they are using the correct anitbiotic.
They can do a HUGE range of blood tests.
They may be able to send specimens to labs ashore though.

All ships have a fully operational hospital, but I remember on Thomson the doctor was very busy with passengers too old and all that, there were constant helicopter rescues to send passengers to hospitals on land.
But they are able to test most things.
The doctors are not always the best and some nurses are real morons.
Also, they ask for a whole bunch of exams before you sign on, but they never even check them.
Once you sign on you give your passport and certificates to the crew purser and your exams to the nurse, they seal it and when its time to sign off they give it back to you.
its very easy to forge the whole thing.
I remember in Amsterdam we had a late sail at midnight and they sent an email advising heads of department that there would be drug tests when we came back to the ship, being Amsterdam and all...
Then when I was walking back to the ship I bumped into the doctor and we started chatting, so I asked her and she replied: I dont even have drug tests, its just to scare.
