Snoke is WAY worse........the cold room is fine. My daughter sleeps better in a cool room with her onesie, socks, and footed fleece sleepers. I keep the heat in her room VERY low at night because she sleeps so much better that way. Even in the summer I have to keep the a/c on enough that her room stays pretty cool, or she won't sleep as well. she sleeps, but not as soundly and she wakes up all the time.

smoke is HORRIBLE and the baby should not be around it at all. the should not even smoke in the same house as the baby. that is horrible and selfish to do that to a child.

smoking around the kid is worse. On cold nights, she can dress her child warmly, but she cant undo the harm she is causing by smoking around the baby. she can also try leaving her childs bedroom door open at night to let some warm air in, or put a space heater in the room for about an hour (with the door closed) before putting baby to bed. turn the space heater off when she leaves the room though, and make sure the smoke detector in babies room is working properly.

geesh, tell your friend to at least buy a small space heater that she can maybe hang high on the wall or ceiling to keep the babies room warm.. and STOP smoking around the poor baby.. both is pretty bad.. I personally think the smoking around the kiddo is worse than the cold.. At least she can get a space heater as previously suggested and cover him/her with blankets , footie jammies (with tshirt and socks underneath) There are plenty of ways to keep the baby warm! There's no way to keep smoking in the same room away from baby :(

Both are !! Do the research on second hand smoke and show your friend. Also let her know that in some states people are getting fined for smoking in cars where children ride. obviously this says alot on how unhealthy this is. Tell her that babies that are around smokers have a great risk for SIDS.

Maybe you could give her a one room heater (the small ones you plug into the wall) for a special occasion, or just as a little gift to the baby. Second hand smoking is horrible! It will eventually hurt the baby if not soon! Good luck!

If those are my 2 choices I'd say keep baby in the cold room and dress him/her very warmly and give extra blankets. Second hand smoke is so bad for children (and adults) and I am not judging. I am a smoker, but I do not smoke in the house, ever.

The combination of the smoking and the cold can cause the baby to have all kinds of problems. She should not be smoking in the house at all. Smoking has been proven to cause asthma in young children. My parents both smoke and they smoke in their cars and in their house. One of my sisters has severe asthma, which at age 43, she still has attacks that send her to the ER. Her baby can end up with respitory distress (RSV) during cold and flu season because she is smoking around her. This is a danger up to around age 2, even though older kids CAN get it, but is more dangerous for infants and toddlers. She needs to quit smoking in her house ASAP!

NEITHER! Have her contact assistance programs in her area. Many states offer fuel assistance to low - income families. Secondly, she should NOT be smoking in the house at all with a baby. Even if she's in another room, the smoke will still reach the baby.
Warn her of both consequences - she is seriously jeopardizing her child's health. If she won't listen, contact social services because she is neglecting her child by not meeting her basic needs.

they are both bad - -but I cant talk I smoke cigarettes, so maybe she should either buy a heater for the child's room, then only smoke in her room

or perhaps not smoke in the house, or she could smoke in the cold room

Smoking is worse. If the child is bundled up and the temperature is reasonable it won't do any harm.
