I always liked him, too, Sho-Nuff - until now. He's talking about saving life while saying that women who have had abortions don't deserve to live. Either life is valuable, or it's not, you know? I'd also like to know how a woman's decision to have an abortion fits into his belief that free will doesn't exist. If it doesn't (and I don't believe that it does) then why the hell does a woman deserve to die for deciding on abortion?

110% agreed, U.P. :)

But Vitamin C, no matter how you crack it, the truth is that at the beginning, it's a *potential* life :)

Okay... I'll try to be nice...

For anyone to talk so easily of rape and incest, and resulting pregnancies in such a flip and uncompassionate way, truly stuns me. The lack of compassion for victims of horrible crimes, and his lack of compassion and caring for women's lives is beyond my comprehension.

The venom at "getting them out of the gene pool" borders on delusional... reminds me of HItler...

Quite frankly, I'm distinctly unimpressed with a definitive lack of insight, compassion, and the dictatorial stance to a very deeply personal and difficult decision...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and very subjective. If I personally found someone to be "REALLY ugly" I probably wouldn't choose that person. But that said, who I find pretty or ugly may be very different from who someone else finds attractive. The answer I'd really like to give you is that I would choose the woman who I felt chemistry with. I've seen some smokin' hot women whose personalities did NOTHING for me. Esp. when they act as if they're all that. I've known a lot of women who were gorgeous on the outside but ugly on the inside. Ugly on the inside is the biggest turn-off of all.

My opinion on his opinion? Then more than half the womn he knows and holds dear to his heart should die, according to his standards. Think he thought about it that far? I truly doubt it.

Nice double standard he's carrying about - I think he should personally be responsible for at least 10 babies that would otherwise have been aborted - fully responsible, in all aspects - we'll call him daddy. That means the addicted babies, the ones with fetal alcohol syndrome, all that.

JP's managed to have an abortion then? Amazing if so. If not, then he really doesn't know what he's talking about.

Well, I'm not one to agree with the death penalty, but if I were an "eye for an eye" type of person, then I would have to agree with JP.

As far as I'm concerned, abortion IS murder.

True or False: Does abortion mean that a human being who would otherwise be working and playing and smiling along with all of us right now is not here? Abortion snuffs out a life, I think we can all agree with that. What if it had been yours or the life of one of your dear loved ones?

How would you feel if someone came to you and said that you were the product of rape, and therefore your mother had every right to kill you before you were born, because your existence caused her emotional duress? That would mean you don't have the same right to be born as someone who was conceived from consensual sex. I personally did not know that a human beings right to be born had anything to do with how they were conceived.

Yes, carrying a child that you do not want for 9 months is likely to be inconvenient, upsetting or down right horrible. However, it does not last forever, therefore why do we see an abortion as an acceptable solution to a temporary problem for the mother, when it is a PERMANENT ENDING for someone who isn't being given a choice.

By the way, when I was pregnant with my children, I made my husband swear to me to do the following if I was unable to make the decision myself: If I happened to be in a severe accident and the doctors said that only one of us could be saved, either me or the baby, then my husband was to choose the baby's life over mine. The reason being that I had already lived for over 25 years, but my baby hadn't had a chance to live yet. I was willing to give my life so that he/she would get that chance too, and I have a very hard time understanding any mother who wouldn't do the same for their child. To purposely KILL a child you are carrying, even to save your own life, points to a complete lack of maternal instincts as far as I'm concerned!

Edit: Pin's argument doesn't hold water, since half of all women have NOT had abortions. Also, at this very moment, there are thousands of people on waiting lists to adopt newborns, therefore there is definitely not a shortage of people who would be willing to care for these "unwanted" babies! As far as the drug addicted and mentally handicapped babies are concerned, do these children have any less of a right to live than those who are considered normal? If no one adopts them because of their disabilities, at least a childhood in foster care is a far cry better than no childhood at all; better than death at the hands of their own mothers! If when they become adults, they decide their life sucks and isn't worth living, then they can choose to end it on their own terms and not have it taken from them against their will as a helpless baby!

I disagree with abortion as a form of birth control, but to say that a few more cell divisions means a woman must live with the pain of one victimization for a lifetime is completely heartless. Saying that the woman doesn't deserve to live... now that is hate speech.

J.P. should be reincarnated as a woman who gets repeatedly raped... that might be the only way he'd learn a bit of compassion.

I do not agree with JP on any things but this I would say I am on the same level except without the graphical comments.
Rape or incest is not an excuse for the tens of thousands of abortions that are done mainly for convenience.
Life is perpetual.
I can give you many theological instances about it but that is not for here.
Life is precious. It should be treated and respected in that manner.

the baby didn't deserve to die either did he/she? Unborn babies have the right to live just as much as anyone else but selfish mothers choose to murder their babies. What would that baby say about this if he/she had the chance?

He sounds like a poser to me. Either a fundie posing as an 'atheist' or visa versa. I don't care how long he has been on this board.

It was his opinion.

Personally I agree that in cases of rape and/or incest or the life of the mother, the mother should be permitted to make the decision, however....if abortions were only performed for those three reasons not only would it be a non-issue, but it might disappear almost entirely.

"...it is commonly assumed that rape victims who become pregnant would naturally want abortions. But in the only major study of pregnant rape victims ever done, Dr. Sandra Mahkorn found that 75 to 85 percent chose against abortion."

"According to Kathleen DeZeeuw, "I, having lived through rape, and also having raised a child 'conceived in rape,' feel personally assaulted and insulted every time I hear that abortion should be legal because of rape and incest. I feel that we're being used by pro-abortionists to further the abortion issue, even though we've not been asked to tell our side."

"The case against abortion of incest pregnancies is even stronger. Studies show that incest victims rarely ever voluntarily agree to an abortion.4 Instead of viewing the pregnancy as unwanted, the incest victim is more likely to see the pregnancy as a way out of the incestuous relationship because the birth of her child will expose the sexual activity. She is also likely to see in her pregnancy the hope of bearing a child with whom she can establish a true loving relationship, one far different than the exploitive relationship in which she has been trapped.

But while the incest victim may treasure her pregnancy because it offers her hope of release, and the hope of finding a nurturing love, her pregnancy is a threat to the exploiter. It is also a threat to the pathological secrecy which may envelop other members of the family who are afraid to acknowledge that the abuse is occurring. Because of this dual threat, the victim may be coerced into an unwanted abortion by both the abuser and other family members."

What about it? He's free to have whatever opinion he likes.

It clear from a preponderance of the evidence that we as a society do not believe human life begins at conception so I'm always a bit amused at the moral posturing about abortions.

i think if you are not a woman, you should keep your mouth shut. i realize that that will tick some people off, but oh well. do these pro-lifers think overflowing orphanages and a population full of adults that were unwanted and unloved as children (cause c'mon, we all know how they will turn out) is a better option? if your head is that deeply imbedded in the sand, maybe you should keep it there.
