"vengeance is mine"???
I think some lame-o put that in cuz he ticked off his fellow sheep farmer buddy and didn't want him to come all up in his crib and shear his sheep for revenge.
What does that mean to you? It means you (or anyone) have a super-cool quote to holler out on dark nights when the warmest thing next to you (or anyone) is a bottle of schnapps. Or something you can say when you hurl trash down the chute when the old bat that spies on you is peeping out her door. Then whirl around and point at her and silently walk backwards into your apartment.
WHEE!

*** it-1 p. 727 Enemy ***
Vengeance is mine, and retribution.” (De 32:35; Ro 12:19; Heb 10:30) Therefore the servant of God does not take vengeance into his own hands; neither does he wish for calamity on his enemies for personal satisfaction, remembering the wise counsel: “When your enemy falls, do not rejoice; and when he is caused to stumble, may your heart not be joyful.” (Pr 24:17) Under the Law, in instances where there might be a question as to whether a manslaying was deliberate or accidental, any previous enmity, hatred, or striking of a man with enmity was a factor that weighed heavily against the accused.—Nu 35:20-25.
There are many “enemies” to be overcome by the Christian during his life course, aside from literal personal opposition. There is grave danger in capitulating to these “enemies,” for, if submitted to, they will bring one into the position of an enemy of God. Says the apostle: “The minding of the flesh means enmity with God, for it is not under subjection to the law of God, nor, in fact, can it be.” (Ro 8:7; Ga 5:17) The Scriptures describe a conflict that goes on within the Christian because of two inimical forces: (1) “the law of God,” which Paul spoke of as the law now governing his mind, and also as “the law of that spirit which gives life in union with Christ Jesus,” and (2) “sin’s law that is in [one’s] members,” or “the law of sin and of death.” (Ro 7:22-25; 8:2) The apostle Peter, in similar vein, admonishes Christians to “keep abstaining from fleshly desires, which are the very ones that carry on a conflict against the soul.” (1Pe 2:11) James the half brother of Jesus concurs, speaking of “cravings for sensual pleasure that carry on a conflict in your members.” (Jas 4:1) One must recognize these things as enemies in order to stand firm against them.

Even if you've been wronged- aside from taking legal steps when warranted- the best thing to do is forgive the best you can and move on. Constant thoughts of vengeance will only punish and tear you up in the end.

"An eye for an eye,a toothe for a toothe,Vengence is mine sayeth the Lord"
This is a great scripture for those of you that are "Christians"
and support the death penalty.
You always defend your support of killing by reciting this scripture, but fail to finish it as our asker did here.
When God says vengence is mine,he means leave the punishment to Him.
BTW I'm Athiest.

If someone does you wrong (in any circumstance) you are to ask The Lord Jesus to intervene in that matter and let him deal with them. We are to just turn the cheek.

It means that you shouldn't take things into your own hands. Let God deal with the judgment (and consequences) for another's wrong doing.
BTW, I find that He does a better job of it than I do anyway. :)

well, considering he probably did not say it, ...
If he did, it means God will be the one to repay evil comitted against the person he is speaking to. Christians make the mistake of believing every word written in the bible is directed at them.

it also says " I shall repay thee saith the lord' meaning if you leave it alone God will repay what ever you lost.......and he always repays at least double so a good investment is to leave it to God
