it will ruin your teeth!

They take a marker and make a spot on your tongue, then they hold your tongue out using something that looks like miniature tongs. Then they shove a needle through. From there they fit the barbell through.

Obviously they'll toss on some alcohol to sanitize your tongue and the barbell and needle will be sterilized as well. There's no numbing. It doesn't hurt though - seriously. It was my first piercing, I was freaking out and actually suprised at how painless it was.

It takes about 2 weeks to heal...you won't be able to eat much for the first couple days, then you'll have a lysp that will disappear by the end of the week.

The metal jewellry can ruin teeth...but I've had mine for 7 years and have yet to chip a tooth or had any complications. My old dentist refused to work on me. I also got my tongue pierced further back so it isn't rubbing against my teeth when I talk and so people don't notice it. (you honestly don't notice it unless I'm sticking out my tongue!)

Tongues are some of the most vascular (lots of blood & nerves) organs in the body. They heal quickly, but during the time they are healing, the pain is significant.

Have you ever had a really bad canker sore? My 17 yo son had one about the size of a pea on the underside of his tongue, and it lasted for more than a week. He couldn't eat, and he actually cried because of the pain.

Fortunately, I have some pain-killer gel the doc gave me for strep. That's the only way my son made it through those days--prescription pain gel (Liquid Lidocaine) before every meal.

Your choice!

they give you mouth wash to rinse out your mouth, then they will mark the spot, clamp it, pierce it and put the jewellery in. it's super fast and it hardly hurts at all.

After, you aren't supposed to drink through a straw, don't remember why. I had slurpees and ate them with a little spoon.

It heals quickly about a week or so, you will have to rinse your mouth out regularly with non-alcoholic mouth wash for a few weeks. I found that i wasn't able to chew gum or eat noodles for a couple of months because those particular things would get caught on the stud.

I have now had mine pierced for 8 years and still love it. Also, it hasn't wrecked my teeth at all I just keep a plastic ball on the top of my tongue. hope this helps:)
