My great-great grandmother was Cherokee. I'm not sure what tribe she came from. I know allot of my ancesters on my mothers side came from Jamestown Ky (Russell County). I also know she had a son named Harvy. My great-great grandmother, not my mother.

There are 3 federally recognized Cherokee tribes:
The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma www.cherokee.org/
The United Keetowah Band of Cherokee www.unitedkeetoowahband.org/
The Eastern Band of Cherokee www.cherokee-nc.com/

There are also hundreds of organizations that call themselves Cherokee tribes. However, only the three listed above are federally recognized. If your ancestor remained in KY and never moved to Oklahoma or North Carolina then you will most likely be out of luck for any of the three federally recognized Cherokee tribes.

Great free website for you is accessgenealogy.com.

This database has 1880 Cherokee census and the Dawes Rolls (19th century enrollment records of Cherokee, Chickasaw & other tribes). They are also working on a national cemetery data base. Right now they have over 35,000 names.
