I had my 2 right wisdom teeth (upper/lower) removed last Friday the 5th of October. I was not put under anesthesia, just a local anesthetic was used. I still cannot open my mouth all the way and I was wondering if this is normal.
I'm asking here for other's opinions because I went to a dentist to have it done, which I'm now regretting.
As for the amount I can open it- I can't even open my mouth wide enough to eat a donut. I guess it's about an inch.
thanks.

It's been over a week, I can eat whole foods, and I don't have an infection. I already finished up my penicillin.

I had my wisdom teeth out in mid-July. The swelling and pain went away after about a week, but I couldn't open my mouth all the way for a long time. About a month ago (so 2 months after the surgery), I still had to flatten hamburgers to eat them. I have a pretty small mouth, and I could open my mouth a about an inch, maybe less. I haven't been paying particular attention lately, but now I can open my mouth all the way. (3 months after)
So you might have to give up "big" foods for a while, but don't worry, you should get your jaw range back within a couple months. Probably less, if you don't have a tiny mouth.

I had the same thing happen when I had my upper wisdom teeth removed, it was like my upper jaw just did NOT want to open at all and it freaked me out but everyone assured me that it was opening, because to me it barely felt like it was opening up. A few days later I was back to normal though still a bit stiff. I had mine done at a dentist as well.

It'll take a while for the jaw to heal. I had this same problem too when I got my wisdom teeth removed. You'll be fine.

HELLO HEATHER,

YOUR JAW MUSCLES WERE STRESSED SOMEWHAT DURING THE EXTRACTIONS. THINGS WILL BE FINE WITH MORE TIME.
PLACING WARM, MOIST COMPRESSES OVER THE SIDE THAT'S SORE WILL HELP TO REDUCE THE SWELLING AS WELL AS TAKING ADVIL 2-3 TABS EVERY 4-6 HOURS. GOOD LUCK.

nothing oral for you for a few days... you'll have to eat soft stuff you can smush into small pieces to slip into your mouth and drink through a straw. you have an infection and it will be a few days before it's healed up...
