Well it's almost my birthday and my parents have been asking me what I want . I really want them to donate money to the poor and elderly in Vietnam with me instead of giving me a present . I saw this commercial on SBTN about sending $3 to this place in Vietnam and they will use the money to help feed a homeless person in Vietnam for 1 month and I was thinking about sending $100 and asking my parents to send $200 , but I'm not sure if I should because my friends have been telling me that it is a scam . What do you think ? Do you think it's a scam ? Please help !!!

WoW! That is so nice of you to want to donate to the poor. A lot more people should do what you do. I am not sure whether that is a scam. I think you should go online and check or look for a better charity. I know there is plenty of charities that are doing the similar things.

you can look in this website

Good Luck!!

look it up online to see if it is a scam or not. There are always other areas where there are poor homeless and starving people. Every 6 minutes a person in the world dies from starvation alone. You can be the one to start making a difference and making life matter to someone. You can make your parents understand and assist you. good luck and have a happy birthday :)

There are on-line resources that assess the different charities that seek to get funding. If you can track down such assessments (www.google.com) you can see what % of their donations go to overhead (staff salaries, etc.) and what % actually goes to the intended recipients.

If you know anyone that is a US govt employee, they can tell you the name of the annual fund drive. That is the name you google on to get the information about NGO effectiveness, etc.

Research the name of the charity that wants to do this. If their overhead (office costs) are are greater than 30% don't do it.
