It sure didn't seem fair that the laps changed at the end so Gordon could win before he ran out of gas. I mean there were 3 to go and they only ran 1. Why? So he could win? I am beginning to feel that Nascar is a "fixed" as the WWF

I love conspiracy theories- a great source of amusement. What i think really happened is that the Rothschilds called the Trilateral Commission and said there was no way that a driver not sponsored by the Dupont's should win the race. So they sprinkled magic fairy dust on the track, Newman slipped on it, allowing Gordon the win. Also- all the oil cartels got richer because they had to run extra laps. :)

The race was scheduled for 334 laps. The race actually was 336 laps do the Newman's late spin and NASCAR's green-white-checker rule. They didn't shorten the race. As far as the Chase is concerned, he would have been plenty happy with 2nd if Newman hadn't wrecked.

ABC, realizing that the race would go some extra laps, threw up some extra laps on their ticker after Newman's spin. This wasn't official, just a guess by someone in the production truck for ABC. They guessed wrong, hence your confusion.

On second thought, I bet someone in NASCAR actually put a bullet in Newman's tire to Gordon would have a chance! Darn you NASCAR, stop cheating for that guy. I mean, you've already given him 81 wins and 4 championships, when does it end?!?

i did not like the way the race ended, even though it turned right into a end that followers are going to communicate about for a lengthy at the same time as. Even more suitable ideal the week before at the same time as tony s rolled in the course of the end line out of gas. i wager that racing.

...Actually there was 3 laps to go when Newman spun out and they added a lap so they could have a green-white-checkered finish so that made it 4 to go. They ran 2 of those laps under caution and raced 2 laps to finish the race. Here's the last 12 laps (13 with the lap added) :

...There was 12 laps left when caution waved (Yellow)
...2 laps were under caution before they realized oil was on the track
...They red flagged the race with 10 to go
...They restarted under yellow made 1 lap and some pitted (Gordon stayed out) which made it 9 to go.
...They continued to clean the track
...On lap 7 Gordon's car started cutting out (low on gas)
...They restarted with 5 to go and Newman took the lead
...Newman spins with 3 to go
...In order to have a green white checkered they had to add a lap which made it 4 to go
...They ran 2 laps under caution with two laps of racing to the finish.

...I think if Newman had not spun out then Gordon might have possibly ran out of fuel. But if Newman had not spun then they would not have added the lap. So who knows.

Gordon won it !

Apparently you missed the caution laps at the end of the race after Newmann spun out with three or four to go. Caution laps count if you haven't noticed. They don't just clean up the race track and then start from where they left off.

Personally I think Gordon was just putting on as how I do not believe he was out of gas at all. He lied

Lets see now. 5 laps to go and it goes green. 4 laps to go
and Newman wrecks causing a caution. 3 laps to go under
caution. 2 laps to go under caution. 1 lap to go and it finally
goes green again. 0 laps to go and the white flag comes out.
+1 lap and the checker comes out. Yes, you are right it was
fixed! Darn NASCAR and those darn Jeffy lovers.
Note to some, that last part was just a little sarcasm.

Did you watch the race? Because you've misstated what happened.

They ran extra laps, not fewer. There were three laps left and, when the caution came out, they added three more.

Then at the last caution, they went with the "green, white, checker finish." They DID run the last three laps, one under caution and two under green.

I didn't see the laps changed. I actually saw that it went back to 4 laps, because of a caution lap. I don't know what you saw, but that's what happened when I saw it. If that did happened, I have no idea why they did it.

I find it hilarious that people are so caught up with the conspiracy theories that they FORGET HOW TO COUNT!!

They actually ran EXTRA laps, which could have caused Gordon to run out of gas. Now, how did that help him again?
