No, however, it is a pork product.

It comes from the Pork Tenderloin, just as Filet Mignon steaks come from the Beef Tenderloin.

So, it is not simply ham, which includes either the butt or shank (or both) of a pig hindquarter.

This high quality pork loin is then cured and smoked, making it taste closer to ham products.

It is also usually fully cooked...but not always.

Another bacon which is different from the junk we get in Amercia is Irish Bacon. It is also known as "back bacon", instead of the belly bacon served in the US.

Should you ever travel there, ask for a "rasher" of bacon. You will be amazed at the large amount of lean meat. It is almost as meaty as Canadian Bacon.

Bacon made from the meat on the back of the pig is referred to as back bacon and is part of traditional British and Irish breakfasts. In the United States, back bacon may also be referred to as Canadian-style Bacon or Canadian Bacon.

No. It's similar to ham but is a bit different. It's pemeal bacon. The funny thing is, I'm Canadian and here if you order bacon you get regular bacon. You have to ASK for Canadian bacon to get Canadian bacon. And many places in Canada don't even carry it.

Back bacon is a lean meaty cut of bacon.

Canadian bacon is a term used in the United States but elsewhere it is simply back bacon. It refers to any lean meaty cut of bacon. In Canada back bacon is sometimes known as peameal bacon, which refers to a specific variety of unsmoked lean bacon that has been sweet pickle-cured and coated in yellow cornmeal (originally, as the name suggests, peameal was used). Other proteins, such as turkey and beef, can be made in the style of peameal bacon by employing this same sweet pickle and cornmeal process.

In the US, products sold as "Canadian bacon" are very often nothing more than pieces of ham cut into circles; not the true peameal bacon popular in Canada. Such "Canadian bacon" is a popular ingredient in fast-food breakfast sandwiches, including the Egg McMuffin.

It's also called back bacon, because it comes from the back of the pig instead of the belly side. It is a lot like ham, though.
