of course it can be a deadly round. It is traveling fast enough to pass through your body and if it hits the right spot it will kill you.
It however does not have knock down power like a larger round like a 7.62 (308) or a 40 cal pistol round or the 45 cal or 357.
They are larger rounds that hit with more impact and spread out more making it more likley to hit something important and also the bigger it is the more damage it makes
I would pick a larger round for home defense but it is better than throwing a rock at someone.
Becuase the round is so fast and so small it can pass throufg someone and not do a lot of damage alowing them to return fire where as a 45 cal will knock them down.
I was hit with 4 rounds from a AK and the first round knocked me off my feet. I felt stunned almost. it kind of felt like being hit by a brick thrown real hard except the brick went through me. The other rounds I dont remember very well.

Caliber can be dangerous at close range. Caliber of choice for assassins who are able to get up close and personal. The longer the range of the target the less dangerous it becomes. A larger caliber is not guarantee either, especially if the criminal is high on drugs.

A .22 is not a very powerful weapon. Think of something that is thinner than a pencil hitting you at very high speed. It will hurt like hell but it won't knock you back or down unless it hits a vital or necessary area of your body (IE your head, your knee cap), BUT it can also hit a non-vital area and then the round begins to tumble off different bones and make your insides into jelly.
But if the weapon is wielded by someone that is a crack shot with it then even a .22 will kill you dead.

A well placed .22 round will kill you just as dead as a 500 Megaton Nuke in your shirt pocket. You will prettier with the .22 but just as dead.
The problem with the .22 is it runs out of energy fast. Long range shots at a 200 pound target will not give you the desired result. If you want a defense weapon look elsewhere. Contact my profile if you want specific recommendations.

In a revolver, the .22 LR round is very reliable. In small pocket semi-autos, very iffy. In bigger t semi-autos, like the Ruger MK III, Browning Buckmark, etc., reliability is about 90%+. The soft lead bullet is at fault for many jams and other related malfunctions.

The .22 Long Rifle round is deadly, though of course it depends on where you hit someone. Obviously it does not knock anybody down like a heavy, large caliber round would.

in case you like a superb out of the field 22 rifle which you do no longer plan on spending $2 hundred to $4 hundred to personalize pass the puffed up Ruger and get the Remington 597 inventory accuracy a techniques exceeds the ten/22 and it costs approximately $one hundred much less, besides the shown fact that that is going up because it beneficial factors the comparable hype of the Ruger It relies upon on the ammo that to procure regardless of in case you spent too plenty The links you have been given have been for inexpensive and grimy Wolf ammo and for corrosive Yugo ammo the two are a techniques from top class

You fire this at somebody and kill or seriously injure them you will be facing questions from the Police.
Just because somebody breaks into your home it will mean that if you use any weapon you wont face some tough questions.
And why is this posted in the Military section.

the .22 can kill, as can any weapon powerful enough to penetrate the body cavity, but it's small size and low velocity make it better suited for small game hunting and target shooting, rather than self defense.

People fire back when shot with a .38 or 9mm. I prefer the 1911A1 with a 185 grain semi jacketed hollow point.
Because when you care to send the very best.............
