One of the characters in my novel is a seriosu bartender and I am trying to describe his fingers. If you work long hours as a bartender, cutting fruit, washing stuff, etc, do your fingers suffer any effects? Funny stains? Permanantly wrinkled tips? Anything identifiable or special?

Yes, the liquors and ingredients can stain skin, especially lemons that can make your fingers rot! I can't imagine that green or red cherries are good for you either. Grenadine? Yuk!
Use hand guard or lotion several times a shift too!
Wash with soap and water after handling lemons/limes!

Bartender Finger Rot

I have never gotten stains from the fruit, but they do leave a citrus smell on your hands. I always have a thick callus on my lower thumb and knuckle of my index finger from opening bottle caps. The beer wash and sanitizer for the glasses leaves your hands dry and scaly, making them crack and bleed if you don't keep plenty of moisturizer or lotion on hand.

My cuticles always got dry from washing my hands so much. And that commercial hand cleanser is harsh on hands. So I used to have tons of bottles of lotion and creams for after work.

you will likely suffer from "bartender rot", inflamed nail beds and finger tips, from years of cutting citrus fruit lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits). it looks ugly & is painful. your ankles will be swollen, and your feet are sore 24/7; not to mention back pain from years of lugging beer kegs, cases of wine & liquor, soft drinks, etc.

Yep. I have cuts in weird places on my hands. Also beer bottle callouses on my lower thumb from opening bottles. And dry hands from sanitizer. Also, lots of yager stains on my clothes - course, that's more from drinking it than serving it:)
