A single 28 yr. old male recently appeared on NBC Today morning show to discuss his choice to get a vasectomy.

Is there a double standard when it comes to a man's choice to
get the procedure done compared woman's right?

If a woman already kids from a previous relationship, why do some women automatically assume most men wants his own?

Why do some women think sterile men get the procedure done because they either hate kids or women, had some terrible experiences with women or relationships?

While I respect his choice, I think this clown is just trying to get attention. His story is not even news. I had a vasectomy when I was 21 (20 years ago, and never had kids). My friend is 25 (with no kids) and he is getting his vasectomy in a few weeks. I know other men that have done the same in their 20's.

I know a lot of men that had vasectomies and never had kids, but are married to women with kids. I think maybe young women will assume that all men that did so hate kids. I don't know any women over 30 that think that way. I don't think there is a double standard.

Sure being sterile was a dating hindrance when I was in my 20's. I was relegated to the “no dating zone” by all the girls my age that had no children. It was not much of a problem in my 30's. But now that I am over 40, there are plenty of women that don't want kids, or that have grown kids, that I can date.

I think there are only three minor issues:

1. There are a lot more women that don't want children, than men. I think this is because they don't want their lives interrupted (one in five women in the USA will choose not to have children).

2. Not having children, until recently, carried a string social taboo. Today fertility in humans is on the decline, so not having children is more common.

3. Society is slow to accept the fact that some of us don't want children. I have spoken to many Childfree people. Most are like me. I had to take care of a younger brother that had a learning disability. I was done parenting by the time I was about 12 years old.

BTW: I bet he gets tones of E-mails from women that don't want kids, now that they have seen him on TV.

I don't know why they are making it out as though this guy is one in a million, or something. I got my vasectomy at 24. I have no kids, and don't care to have them. I don't need the headache.

I don't hate kids. I date women with kids all the time. Women without kids won't date me.

There is no double standard.

Interesting to see how men cope with the shoe being on the other foot, as it were.

Some men and women usually don't have kids because they choose not to, and follow through with sterilisation - their decision.
