you cannot set the timing. it is set by the pcm. the only thing you can do is set the sync between the distributor and the crank, but you need a scan tool. turning the distributor does not change timing. what problems are you having? if you are having spark knock, remove the airbox and look down the throttle body. if you see alot of oil, and possibly parts of a gasket sticking out from the sides, you need to replace the plenum pan gasket. it bolts to teh bottom of the intake. when the gaskets suck out, it will draw in oil causing spark knock. the new gasket is made of steel so it lasts forever, opposed top the junk paper one that it came with.

sprinkles is right. If for some reason you need to re-set the timing, you have to use a DRB. you can go advanced or retard a couple of degrees. The pick up plate in the distributer is for injector timing only.

my suggestion is to get a mitchell book for your truck there will be instrucsions on how to check that its not hard.I do belive the cam sencer is located on top the trans.behind the oil dipstick but check the book to be sure most auto parts will have them..
