It's not a matter of choosing to believe in a deity, but money that is stolen from me to pay for your kid's education shouldn't be used to propagate a religion. (It arguably shouldn't be used for education, either, or stolen in the first place, but that's another subject.)

Could care less whether or not you learn the history of America. What has that to do with god or any other religion. I can see why you're having trouble with American history if you actually believe that America started religions. It is everyone's choice whether they want to believe in god or not. Just keep such delusional thought out of the schools that my family has to attend that my tax dollars pay for. That's precisely what the first amendment to the constitution is all about.

HUH?
Forcing children to pretend to believe in god is NOT the same as teaching history that includes the role of religion in the history being studied.
Of course students should study ABOUT religion and its effects in culture and history.
But stop trying to force everyone to believe in your imaginary Sky Bully.
Um any history that ONLY talks about religion when discussing America's beginings is a really lousy book, as there was a lot of other stuff going on.

Lynette, everyone is free to believe or not believe.
The "under god" was not added to the Pledge until 1954 as a feeble attempt at fighting communism.
The U.S. government has never started any religion.
The founding fathers, rightly, and expressly wanted a sharp separation of church and state.
You talk about the history of America, I suggest you learn some before you start talking about what America has and has not done.

Teaching about the influence of religion is not the same thing as teaching religion. People came to America because they were looking for religious freedom. The specific beliefs of those colonists shaped the colonies. But that is a far cry from saying that God in real or not real or that people whould pray in a certain way (or at all).

Schools should not primarily be a religious institution. Most schools still talk about American history and the role spirituality has played throughout. Most schools still say the pledge of Allegiance.
There needs to be lines drawn but sometimes I think people are just being ridiculous. If a child wants to talk about his faith when he graduates the school isn't endorsing the kids personal beliefs or asking people to listen to him. The kid is.

Since Yahwah (YHWH) God is our Maker AND our Owner since all the earth and everything in it belongs to Him, we should be teaching our children about THE most important issue ever to face mankind, YHWH God's Universal Sovereignty and His Holy Name.
The children are surely confused when they pledge allegiance or sing god save the king/queen---so, what is it?
One nation under God? or what?
Yes, the nations are also confused in this , Satan's System.
The Devil's got a good hold on this worldly system, that's for sure.
The blind leading the blind.

Learning about who believed what and having to say "In God we trust" is a lot different.
Our constitution and such has been changed 28+ times.

I think God should be in schools and everywhere else for that matter. You have people trying to take it out and look what is replacing it,guns and drugs.
[EDIT]i'm hearing some lame answers.Come on people you can do better than making kids believe. It is more like they are intefering with the way a child is taught at home.I can see there are a lot of people on here that are not teaching at home, probably because they are too lazy.
