I had a Marilyn Monroe cut for a while- When it's straight, it's a little past shoulder-length, and it definitely looks glam when it's curled.
The styles in Hairspray are cute too, especially if you'd be willing to take the extra time to style.
A lot of the shorter styles can be faked by pinning up your hair in different ways.

Veronica Lake always had the perfect style hair. It was her signature trademark.
Also any straight styles that turn under like a page boy, it was popular from 1937 through the mid 60s.

I tried this style last week cause we had a 1940's-1950's spirit day thing at school, And I really wanted my hair to look like 1940's just as well as my outfit, so I tried this hairstyle and it worked very well but it required a few steps. When you get to the site click on bouncy curls.
