I don't understand why esau was labelled as immoral or godless. He was tricked by jacab into selling his birthright.(jacob was cunning and esua was naive.) isaac's blessing was stolen from esau by jacab. why esau gets all the blame? I pity him. jacob was a thief but blessed. esau was not blessed. that's the only difference. esau is very much discounted in the bible. why did not the church give him a due credit?

Esau was not tricked. He willingly gave up his birthrite. He was not sorry for his godlessness, he was sorry he lost his wealth.

Well, yes, I feel sorry for Esau, too, but you can't really say that Jacob "tricked" him, can you? Esau was hungry after hunting, and Jacob told him that he could have a bowl of soup if Esau gave him his birthright. A birthright for a bowl of soup/food? If somebody values a quick meal over a birthright, then there's only a certain amount of sympathy that you can give that person.

" why did not the church give him a due credit?"
Because the church is not in charge. God is in charge.

And God made the choice before they were even born. The account is not accurate until you see what really happened between Jacob and Esau before the incident with Rebekah, Jacob, and Isaac. And that is found in:
Genesis 25
29 And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:

30And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. (means 'red')

31And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.

32And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?

33And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

In Hebrews, it says:
Hebrews 12:16
Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

That is treating the things of God cheaply. God doesn't like that kind of thing. Jacob lusted after the promises, the brithright that Esau was to receive. Therefore even though Jacob was acting deceitfully, his goal was to get the promises of the birthright from God because he valued them more than his brother even considered.

I pity Esau too. But I pity him because he failed to see how excellent the promises of God are. Esau didn't even think so. And Esau continued in his ways thereafter, not listening to God about very much at all.

Esau is more of a symbol in the Bible. The whole situation that he was tricked by his brother, Jacob, was all symbolic, showing that God chose Jacob, also known as Israel, to be His people.

Their mother Rebekah was told by God when they were still in her womb that the older would serve the younger and that there were two nations inside her. She held on to what God had spoken to her and she said to let the curse come upon her if need be, because of what her and Jacob decided to do (trick Issac). Jacob purchased Esau's birthrite with a bowl of lentils. His name meant "the grabber" and God changed his name to Israel. God knew both men before they were in the womb and he knew their hearts! Jacob was meant to be blessed from the very beginning. And he was!

He was not tricked so much as he chose to give up the blessing of his father for a meal! No one is forced to choose only to make a choice he chose to give up his blessing for stew...ooops! The bible followed the line and Esau's passing of the blessing as the first born removed him from that line!

There is a difference between regreting a course of action and being truely repentant. Esua didn't covet his birthright when he had it. He treated it like so much garbage, only later to come to regret that decision. It was really meant for Jacob in the first place. but one thing you have right Jacob didn't need to be sneeky to get it. His dad was supposed to have given it to him anyway. but as you can see if you read the continued story back in Genesis 'what goes around comes around' for Jacob was also deceived on many different levels.

Esau was the equivalent to those today who profess to believe in Christ and His ministry, and yet have no understanding or appreciation for the sacrifice he made for them, and sell there salvation for selfishness. He could have never been the tool in Father's hands that he needed to be to do father's work. It was necessary that Jacob receive that mantle.

Because nobody named Esau gets respect. Its half of SEESAW. Have YOU ever been on half of the seesaw with no one on the other half? You're all alone, just sitting there, on the ground. It sucks to be Esau.
