I think it actually set a bad precedent. Allowing an amnesty of that sort should NEVER be allowed again.

What do you think?

Good point CHEE. However the amnesty of 86 also didn't kick out those who were less than desirable. Such as felons and gang members. Which are 2 big reasons people are so against any type of reform now. See where I'm going?

Bullcrap DogTricks.. it was not the amnesty that failed, they gave it without closing the borders, if I left a huge box of money out it the open and a bunch of people grabbed some and I forgave them but filled it again and again and left the box out for another 20 years you don't think people would keep grabbing it??? Give me a break, I will never pander to those who will never understand.

I think the laws of the land should be enforced against ALL people, including the President of the United States, cops, robbers, all alike, or why have laws?
If you read the article about this problem in the American Legion, October 2007, it says, quite simply, enforce the laws and the problem will be resolved.
That earlier amnesty, the ones before it, and the ones after it, all encourage more to break the laws and to come here.
Honest Americans can not get many of the benefits the illegals receive, and that our Liberal Govenment denies the illegals receive.
Yes, the 1986 amnesty set a bad example; it should never have been allowed, and it should be stopped immediately.
Given the number of illegals, just look around you. Count off 25 people, and pick one. That is how many illegals there are in this country: 1 in 25.
Our economy is going down the tubes. Illegals is one of the main reasons. Not only do they take jobs away from Americans, we have to pay such high taxes to support them, and then to add insult to injury, they are sending $30,000,000 back home to mamacita!

You bet ya it did. And it should of never of been done, now we are faced with the mess we have...and don't ever believe there are just 12 million try doubling that...and you will find the truth of the matter. However, deporting that many people is almost impossible....the only way to stop this is to go after the employers that hire the illegals with huge fines and jail if necessary...stop all aid to undocumented illegals and they will run for the hills. Also...send Vicente Fox back home to live with the mess he made of his own country and shut his mouth up.!!!!

Your right. Why do you think the nation went tilt on Amnesty II? Congress tried to get it through low profile but did they get a surprise. I believe they forget who they are supposed to represent.

The situation now requires that much harsher penalties be invoked.
