I've got 2 female chipmunks and 1 male. My female chipmunks keep fighting, 1 has lost both her ears and the other has nearly lost both ears has a wound on the back of the head, under her cheek and just above the tail. I have seperated the females but I was just wondering if anyone knows why they are fighting? They are from the same litter.

my chipmunks do this as well it seems common at this time of year you have done the correct thing by separating them when you do put them back in provide a separate nest box for the females and one for the male I did this last year and it seemed to stop the fighting

I take it the male is not also from the same litter I have to remove the males at this time of year and keep them separately

I think it's probably related to them being in season. So they're probably fighting to mate with the male. You'll probably want to keep them apart from each other for the moment, as they're not going to calm down any time soon. If you want one of them to mate with the male (or don't mind if thev'e been 'done'), then keep the one that gets on best with him in there for company. They other female can be kept behind a mesh or in a seperate part of the cage.

You can also alternate the females that are in with the male.

When bringing the females back into contact, do it first with them meeting behind a see-through mesh or caging, they'll need to do this to get used to each other and examine each other to see if they are a threat or not.

If this persists for too long, take one of them elsewhere, give it a loving home - there are loads of people who love chipmunks.

Good luck with it all, hope everything goes okay xxx

In my experience with animals I believe you must seperate those two females ASAP.
Find out which one is best with the male & keep the other completely seperate. Better still, find her a better home.
Act quickly before one of them dies.
Don`t you know anything?

Women, they always fighting over us guys. :-p
OK, I poked a hole in my Ego.
I really not know, but, I think of how much room do they have? They may be fighting over a nest area or something.
