Is it only bottles or pints? What would be an average price and what would be a rip off price? We are going there on vacation.

Bottles, pints, yards, lit res,..........it's all available if you look. The average price of a pint is about $5 or $6. Go to happy hour and it can be $3.
I know Bar 515 has $3 domestics (not just bud and coors light) for happy hour. ( http://bar515.com/ )

A select few dive bars will charge as little as $2 for a can of PBR or $3 for a domestic pint. But most bars in Manhattan will charge $5 for domestics, $6 for imports. Even higher in chains such as Hard Rock, etc. There is no "rip off" price. It depends on the type of bar. If you are drinking at a bar at a high-end night club, or a fancy hotel bar at lets say the Parker Meridian, you're going to pay $8-$10 a drink.

If you go to touristy places or trendy places, you'll pay 6-8 dollars a beer. I go to the Blarney Stone on 3rd and 45th and pay 3 bucks a pint.

About $3-$5, and beer usually comes in bottles.
If you're coming to North America to drink, come to Toronto instead of NYC.
In Toronto, we have the best selection of pubs and real ales on this side of the Atlantic and we serve it them the way they SHOULD be served: in imperial pints, not bottles, about C$5-8 per pint.

it usually comes in 12 oz bottles - at a regular bar it should cost about 4 bucks for imported or 3 for domestic (American) beer.

There is a place in SoHo (can't remember name right now)that does it or 2.50 but it usually taste flat. Their food is awesome tho so it make up for it.

i think its mostly bottles but they do beers too!
i cant remember the price but they are a little more expensive, everywhere in new york is more expensive then in England and Ireland!
