I am getting a new HDTV. Right now I have a Sony receiver and it is a few years old. I was wondering if I can hook all the audio and video up directly to the tv and then somehow get it to run to my receiver. I dont want to have to run the video to the tv and then stretch the audio cables to my receiver, is it possible to run one audio line from the tv to the receiver??

You are suppose to connect all video and audio to your AV receiver. Then, have one or two video cables run from your receiver to your TV. Your receiver is suppose to be do the switching, not your TV.

There are some HDTV's that have digital audio out that you can run back to your AV receiver.

Ask the sales person if the TV has an audio output. Most do, some don't. Make sure it has one. If your receiver accepts optical inputs try and find one with an optical output. If not, the red and white rca output will still sound good.

Sure, you can do that, although it may compromise

the best performance. Make sure the new HDTV

has at least one HDMI connection to give you the

best performance capability as well as flexibility.

If you're not sure on which HDTV to get, my short

list is composed of Sony, Akai, Westinghouse, in

that order. Flat-panel LCD is the best balance of

performance and features and value right now.
