Thanks for answering it. I was sure that this is not needed but wanted to check in case this is needed or needed when you're in hawaii and boarding some local cruise etc because you do need passport when taking cruise even though going to hawaii (US State) only

All you need to fly to Hawaii is a valid government id (i.e. your Illinois drivers license). it's just like flying to anywhere else in the USA.

You do not need a passport to fly to Hawaii from Chicago since Hawaii became the 50th US state in 1959. You will however, need a form of picture ID for all parties traveling via plane (this includes the kids) because you'll need it to get on the plane (and through the security line). This picture ID has to be any valid government issued ID such as a driver's license, state ID card, school ID, etc with your printed name and photo on it. For the kids, if you have a school id, that would work or a child registry card (such as one you might get free from your local police in case your child ever gets lost/kidnapped).

As for needing a passport when you're here in Hawaii, you'll only need one if you're planning on taking the interisland cruise ship around the islands as they have to exit US waters and reenter when they are touring the islands (it has something to do with being registered as a cruise ship). You do not need a passport to take the majority of the dinner cruises and such that are available readily.

But, it would be a good idea to obtain one because eventually, a Passport will be required for alot of travel trips. It would be best to have a Passport for future vacations.
