Why is it that every time when a question is asked about the best driver of now is Dale Jr. put in it. he is a good driver but not one of the top five drivers at this time. He has not done good in over a year and he is still missing one thing that he needs to be called one of the best. A championship

I like the fact that everybody calls him Dale Jr, because he doesn't deserve the Earnhardt name in there. He's nothing but a spoiled little brat who's daddy woulda whooped his butt by now if he was still alive. I'm so glad Teresa sent him packing. I can't believe he actually thought she should hand him over 51% without working for it. His daddy worked his tail off for the things he had, and he woulda wanted his spoiled brat son to do the same. As for his driving ability, he's average at best. He isn't even close to the talent levels of Stewart, Kenseth, Gordon, Johnson, Kurt Busch, Labonte, or Martin, and I've left several others off this list. Jr. & Kenseth came into cup the same year, Kenseth won rookie honors that year, and has whipped his butt every year since, not to mention a Cup Championship. Jr.s only claim to fame is his daddys name, period!

King 71, you're so far off base that you're going to need a GPS to find your way back. Kenseth's whipped Jr's butt every year since they came into Nextel??? Funny last I looked their numbers were pretty much the same(oops I look at stats before I post something, something others around here don't seem to do) and last I checked Jr still has more wins than Matt. And if you remember Matt's championship is the reason that the Chase everybody loves came about. Oh wait a minute those 15 wins in 5 yrs came about because he's Dale Jr. and everyone just pulls over for him, had nothing to do with the ability to drive. Yup Jr's driving style is the reason DEI has more engine related DNFs than MWR. Note that he only had 2 engine related DNF's in 06.

Are youu going to tell me that if Dale Earnhardt Sn. had never won a Daytona 500 then he wouldn't be called one of the greatest drivers. And Dale Jr. isn't in chase for the cup this year because of the pressure he has been under to find out what team what the car would look like and what sponsers. And i'm not tring to make up an excuse for Jr not winning or being in the chase.

I would personally never say that Jr. is the best driver in racking now but i see why people say it. He races real hard, never gives up, takes the blame for things that aren't his fault (six blown engines this year and still says it isn't the engineering guys), he is able to make a name for himself even though his dad was and still is the best driver (people don't say look at Sr's son, they say look at Jr, he is making his way to the top), he does things out of the ordinary and makes them work (any track that has a top groove he uses it and hardly ever leaves) and he made the crew chief switch work to the best of its ability. He doesn't have a championship not because he can't race (he finished 3rd, 5th, and 5th in the points) but people like Jeff and Jimmie and Tony beat him. In NASCAR if you have one bad week you can bet that one of your competitors will have a good week. Jr comes from a company that is under 10years old. Hendricks is over 20 years and i am pretty sure Joe Gibbs is at least 15. DEI lost there glue (Dale Earnhardt), while Hendricks and Gibbs have their glue keeping them together. DEI is family upon family members congregated in one place everyday causing personal strife, while Hendricks and Gibbs has strangers. Jr hasn't won a championship because he has had the means to do so, good cars, awesome crew members, key players that never leave him, and good engines. Jr will get his championship and he will be the best he just isn't yet and i think that KIng is rude for all that he says because Tersea didn't kick Jr out Jr left her because she is running DEI into the ground give it 5 years and DEI will be done, no more top tens or drivers in the race for the championship, loser racers like Mike Wallace will be racing her cars and she will be mad that she didn't keep Jr to keep them togeth.

It has everything to do with his marketability. If he wasn't bringing in such a large amount of endorsement dollars and media attention he wouldn't even get as much attention as Martin Truex who will finally have the chance to shine at DEI now that he won't have to be in Earnhart's shadow.

Junior hasn't fared nearly as well as his contemporaries and I agree should not even be in the Top 5 of drivers entering NASCAR since 1999. After all Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch, and Matt Kenseth all have championships and Tony Stewart has two, but if you ask the average NASCAR fan or non-fan who NASCAR's best driver is 9 out of 10, you'll hear Junior instead of Jeff Gordon.

He is an amazing driver with a whole lot of talent. Engine failures have caused him this season, he could have been in that chase and giving them a run for their money for sure.

To me the fact that he doesn't have a championship doesn't mean much, before Jimmie won the championship I still considered him one the best out there...the championship didn't do that, it was Jimmie's talent, the championship was just a bonus. Same with Jr. he'll get the championship someday, and it'll be icing on the cake.

DEI use to have good equipment he has won 17 races, and 2 busch championships and the Daytona 500.. Just wait till next yr, all the doubters will see what Dale Jr can do...all he needs is the best equipment and best people, and HMS has all of it... Put Jeff Gordon in DEI crap....see how good he would do...let the whinning begin..

Go Dale Jr & HMS in 2008

He gets put into the "best" driver category more for his popularity than anything. He's a good talent, but it'd be tough to put him in the top five of active drivers today.

And for those who talk about crappy equipment, Hendrick is better than DEI....but not by THAT much.

i imagine Jr. will do properly now with new crew chief, Im particular he had to get far flung from cousin as their racing chemistry at the same time become in basic terms no longer operating. Jr. will continually have a journey, his utilizing tallents are to strong no longer to have journey. regardless of if he ought to no longer have a cup journey he's amazingly a lot in contact with JR Motorsports and doing properly. Dont imagine he will run mid p.c.. anymore

didn't you know the nascar world revolves around junior?!
yea i don't get it either.
he is the most popular driver in nascar and that just confuses the hell out of non-nascar fans. when they ask you "what's the point?" and you say "to win races and show who is the best" it really pisses me off when they say "so why is it that the most popular driver hasn't won in a year and half and doesn't have a championship?"
what are we supposed to say to that.

oh and we can't forget that truex has won this year in the same equipment as junior so their equipment must not be that crappy considering that truex is probably the same caliber of driver as junior.

I love those who claim that just because Junior has won Daytona, he's a good driver. Derick Cope won Daytona too, remember? Gordon had found ways to win in crappy cars in the past, Junior just blows them up. Hendrick will not be happy next year when his number of team wins declines because he replaced Kyle Busch with a driver of lesser talent, and Junior starts blowing up Hendrick motors too.

So Junior has won some Busch series championships...guess who else has? Joe Nemechek, Steve Grissom, Johnny Benson, and Brian Vickers to name a few. They are also among the top Cup elite too right? No, wait a minute, guess they aren't. Being a Busch champion does not mean squat, sorry.

Those argument hold absolutely no merit, sorry.
