I was once stationed at Ft. Bragg. Most enlisted men don't become green berets until they've been in at least a couple of years. They won't even look at you unless you're an E4 or above anyway. Since the process (jump school, Q course, etc) can take about a year, you'll be an E5 by the time you earn that SF tab, and the right to wear that beret and the combat boots with your dress uniform.

You can try,

You can enlist in the navy under the Seal Challenge contract.

You can enlist in the Air Force and try for Para Rescue or Combat Controler.

You can enlist in the Army under the Ranger Option or try the 18x option for Special Forces.

You can enlist in the Marines under the Recon Option.

But you have to realise, that 80% of the people who try, fail the pre screening test.

And then 80% of the people who pass the pre screening test, will fail the actual selection course.

For the Air Force and Navy, once you fail, they can assign you to any job they want to for you to complete your enlistment.

For the Army and Marines, if you fail, you will be an Infantrymen and assigned to a regular infantry unit.

Just to give you an idea, for the Army's 18x enlistment option,

Out of the 678 people who enlisted under that option, only 14 made it to the start of the Special Forces Qualification Course (Q course),

664 washed out in Basic training, AirBorne training, Special Operations Preparation Course (SOPC) or the Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS).

The group typically called "Special Forces" are Army Green Berets, you can enlist for the SF. Talk to a recruiter and ask to be put in as an 18X.

For the Navy it is the Seals, for the Marines it is RECON? and the Air Force it is Para-rescue, aka Red Berets.

Why are all the answers that are correct getting the thumbs down?

YOU CAN ENLIST STRIAGHT OFF THE STREET INTO THE 18X PROGRAM (AKA SPECIAL FORCES/GREEN BERETS) AT 18 YEARS OLD.

DOES IT HAVE A HIGH WASH OUT RATE? YES IT DOES, IT IS NOT (NONE OF THE ELITE SPECIAL FORCES ARE) A CAKE WALK, THERE IS LOTS OF TOUGH TRAINING BOTH OF THE BODY AS WELL AS THE MIND, EITHER ONE FAILS YOU ARE OUT OF THE PROGRAM.

If you are able to join the military (earliest is 17 with parental consent), you are able to (as far as age is concerned) begin special forces training. As far as Air Force special forces go (TAC-P, Combat Control, Pararescue), you have to try out while in basic training. If you pass the tryout, you begin your indoctrination, and once complete, you begin the pipeline, which for CC and Pararescue, is about 2 full years befor you become operational.

You better be EXTREMELY well prepared, both physically and mentally. It's no joke, it becomes your life.

You can try but the success rate of the 18x program is about .001%. You see, in order to become SF, you don't just complete the training, you have to be selected based on your performance, history, interviews and reviews of your peers. Many soldiers go to SF selection and perform well, but do not get selected for a variety of reasons.

Most successful SF selectees are in thier late 20's and have 5+ years in the Army either as Infantry or as a Medic.

You need at least a year or more of specialized training to be in Spl. Forces, so assuming you enlist at 18, if you should be lucky enough to get into spl forces training and pass, you will most likely be almost 20 yrs. old.

you need to be 20 to get an 18x settlement, yet in case you pass as an infantryman they can provide the settlement at trouble-free in case you a stud it really is the position i have been given my settlement and my chum become 18 and they gave him one yet i'd not plan on getting the settlement. your perfect wager is to get an airborne slot then pass to tear and grow to be ranger to strengthen up for decades then pass to decision, although if you're a ranger and what to pass SF, ranger batt seems down on that because they are all hooah hooah and such. although that is obtainable once you've a robust GT score (above one hundred ten) and a robust pt score (a minimum of 290) and it would not damage to understand a 2d language it really is how my buddy were given his (he speaks spanish and portuguese)

No you join the army as a recruit go through basic then you can apply for a chance to do the S.F. Training Course.

You cant just walk into S.F. no matter how good you think you are.

Yes you can. It has a huge wash-out rate for direct enlistees. Once you fail out, you go needs of the Army after that. Most who make it through SF training spend atleast 1 tour in the Army prior to volunteering for SF.
