I am an aircraft mechanic looking to retrain into one of these two aircrew AFSC's, but am completely uninterested in obtaining a job that requires a Top Secret security clearance. Do either of these jobs require a TS, or is it just a Secret security clearance for both or one of them? ***please, only PRIOR or CURRENT MILITARY respond, i've done research, so I know just as much as any non-servicemember already does***

No, pumping fuel on a KC would not require a TS. Maybe if you had to handle crypto material/radios, otherwise, no...

I have been retired for a while but the only guys I knew of who laid on their belly and passed gas didn't need a TS. There was one exception, the tankers that refueled the Top Secret reconnaissance aircraft usually had a TS.

Three years in a SAC command post. The guy that cleaned the toilet had a TS where I worked.

I don't understand your concern about the TS. It is an extensive background check and that's about it. When I went from Secret to TS my hair didn't fall out or anything like that. If you do get pushed into a TS situation, just DON'T LIE on the application. The truth with an explanation goes farther than trying to explain a discovery.

Either AFSC requires a min of a Secret Clearance. Certain missions may require a TS clearance. Your squadron will determine if you need one or not.
There will always be a few personnel that have one, and some that don't.
If you are reluctant to go through the investigation for a higher clearance, that would raise a red flag to what they might find in your background.

N O, all you'll need is a Confidential Clearance, if they still have it, otherwise you'll need at least a Secret and that should be simple!! No Top Secret is required!!
