Another Part of the Story often missed , you may need to re word it better then me. St Paul (birth name saul) was the Biggest persecutor of Christians, He was A Jew..He was also The Most Highest regarded Student of the Rabbi's and Pharisees, What that Means Is He understood the Old Testament Better than Most anyone of those times & Today, He was responsible for persecuting the Christians, Killing them ,Condemning them because of his Stature as A TRUE MAN OF GOD...A Great Future Leader Amongst the Jews. What is interesting Also to note is The Message Jesus Gave Paul in the Question He Asked " Saul Saul Why do you persecute me?" Jesus did not Say, Saul Saul we do you persecute My People? Paul Knew what Jesus ment, He New then that Jesus is Directly Connected With All of Us Jesus is a Part of All of us. Jesus at that point was resurrected, Paul was persecuting Christians because they Worshiped Him & were not following Hebrew Law.. He wasn't persecuting Jesus physically , But More the Idea of Christianity, But by condemning the people of Jesus, he actually was Persecuting Christ. he realized this when Jesus Made that statement , It is Paul who writes saying We are All one Body in Christ We are in Him & he is In Us. By the way Who Better then Paul to Have Promote Christ & Christianity ....Remember he was the Best Student and Master of the Old testement ...He was a Complete Package to help establish Christianity and the Traditions

Saul was a well to do devout Jew. He detested the new following that Jesus had begun to attract. This Jesus had claimed to be the Messiah or Jewish Saviour, promised by God centuries before. The Roman Authorities had killed Jesus for being troublesome, but stories began to circulate that Jesus had risen from the dead.
Saul began to actively stop these new followers of Christ, Christians in their tracks and began to persecute them. On a journey to have some Christians rounded up and tortured, he saw a vision of Christ and was blinded. On the return of his sight, he became one of the most famous Christians of all times and was eventually put to death for being a Christian.

Saul was indeed an orthodox Jew and did persecute those Jews who believed that Jesus was the saviour. He was going to Damascus when he had a vision of Christ (or so he said) and it blinded him. His followers took him to Damascus where he found shelter in the house of one of the Jews who believed in Jesus (the house is still there on a street called Straight) He recovered his sight and started to preach about Jesus and the Romans wanted to arrest him and closed the city gates. His followers lowered him down the city walls in a basket. How much of this is true I don't know but he was one of the main people to open up the faith to none Jews thus helped to found world wide Christianity

To be read aloud to the little children_:
Before Paul was a Christian he used to follow after them and kill 'em with his sword. When he realised he couldn't beat and got tired of killing them off he wanted to join 'em. On the road to Damascus something strange and wonderful happened to Paul, some sort of LSD-tripp. He got blind for a short minute and Jesus started to talk to him. That finally convinced Paul to become a nice brother in Christ and to do good to everyone. paul never met with the real Jesus so he had to invent the whole idea of a new Christian faith.

There once was a brave man who loved God, and wanted to please and obey Him. His name was once Saul. Saul thought that it was good to keep the name of Jesus away. He did everything in his manly power to make sure no-one spoke about Jesus. He didn't know that Jesus was Gods beloved Son. And that Jesus pleased God. One day Saul saw a light. Then he heard Jesus speak. When he heard Jesus speak and saw His beautiful light flashing around, He knew He was really the Son of God. From then on he became even stronger because Jesus was always with him. He used his strength in talking. Talking about Jesus. He use to not like talk about Jesus. But now he loved talk about Jesus. And God was pleased with him. God changed Saul's name to Paul. Maybe a new name is like having a new life with Jesus. (Children love pictures. Maybe draw pictures with a few lines under each picture. It makes the story stick. And it makes it interesting, therefore easier to understand.)

I wouldn't tell children this, but this is how it happened. He was an orthodox type fundamentalistic jerk who Jesus would have hated like he hated Pharisees and Saducees. He, like most fundamentalistic jerks, went around persecuting people (in this case The early Christians) until one day he fell off his horse, hit his head real hard, and thought he saw Jesus. Jesus apparently, going against everything he ever said in life, or how Peter understood the Messiah's message, told Paul to go on being pig-headed and fundamentalistic, and just persecute gays and women, who Jesus himself travelled around with, not telling them once to get in the back of the church, or to be less in anyway. In fact, the Real Jesus, not the one Paul thought he saw after the fall from his horse, went to see women first after his rising, loved Prostitutes more than his male deciples, and lived life like a bridegroom.
