That other letter is great, but I would refer to the job as a 'custodian' unless it's called anything other in the job ad :) I would also not mention having references in the cover letter but perhaps on one's resume at the bottom of the page -- 'References': 'Available upon request' (though without the apostrophe or quotes but can keep the colon after 'references' ;) Playing up one's strengths is a great idea as the other postee did in that letter and trying to make oneself as marketable as possible without sounded pompous or arrogant such as having excellent work ethic (taking job very seriously), dedicated and reliable. Perhaps mentioning that you are a quick thinker along with having physical stamina. As long as one is honest, it's great to talk about one's accomplishments and strengths.

I am writing this letter seeking employment with your company as a custodial employee.( or in answer to your ad for a custodial employee). I have___ number of years of experience in this field. My past employers will be happy to give me references since I have always been a reliable and dedicated employee. I look forward to hearing from you so that we can schedule a personal interview.
