The whole stem cell research controversy is the unfortunate fallout of the anti-abortion rights movement's decision to use a "it's a human being from conception" strategy. That decision has led that movement to a variety of morally wrong actions, and is the main reason why we still have an abortion problem.
Needless to say, no form of stem cell research involves "killing babies" - it's simply a lie when the anti-abortion rights folks make that claim. Those Stalinesque strategies are why I could never support that movement.

I actually beleive that stem cell research is a great pursuit. I beleive the Human body to be sacred, the embryo as well as the adult who may be healed by such study.
Those who object to embryonic research, I wonder if they are aware that research is only performed on those embryos which would otherwise be thrown in the trash. When embryos are created in vitro, many of them are not used. Several are implanted and the rest are saved in case the process does not work. But if the procedure took, then the rest of the embryos are thrown in the garbage. Is throwing something in the trash a more noble end than research for curing cancer, MS, and other diseases?

Christian do not have a problem with regular stem cells research. it is hyped up by the media that Christians have that stance. lots of time you will see the argument structured with the word embryonic left out. when President Bush vetoed the bill many newspapers and tv stations left that word out. they did not say that the presidents adminstration has given more money for stem research then any other president. embryonic stem cells have not yeilded any good results. last year a study was released about embryonic stem cells used on mice and majority of them devolped brian tumors. on the other hand the adult stem cells are found to be more reliable an stable.

I'm all for stem cell research using the alternative sources you cited, but the problem is that whenever the 'Pro-embryonic' side pleads their case they lump all Stem Cell research into the same basket, they don't delineate between embryonic, umbilical, or adult.
Turning the argument into of 'For or against stem cell research', and Not 'for or against Embryonic-Stem cell research'
and since the Pro-Choice people, the Media, and the embryonic stem cell people are all on the same side its hard to get the facts out about the benefits of only umbilical or adult Cells.
One other problem, is that they also claim that 'Snow-flake' Embryos (the IVF leftovers put on Ice) also referred to as "Existing Stem Cell Lines" are less productive. and they wish to generate new embryos solely for the purpose of testing and research.
Another issue is that the Missouri Legislation that Michael J. Fox was hyping during the 06 elections, actually opens the door to Cloning experimentation.

Stem cells that are collected from adults and from the umbilical cord and placenta of a baby donated after birth are ok. It's just the embryonic one that they are against.

Nothing wrong with it if it doesn't involve embryos; as a matter of fact, they are actually finding and researching stem cells coming from baby teeth, could put the tooth fairy out of business!

I don't have a problem with adult stem cell research or any stem cell research as long as long as they can be harvested without killing anybody.
I think IVF is a shady business BECAUSE it wastes embryos. I haven't really thought that much about it, though.
I guess if you have some embryos who are dead or dying anyway, that might be just like donating a dead body to science. That's something to think about.

I think for alto of peoples, Stem Cell Research is a bit taboo yet. its still very new and i think it will take time for it to be accepted. I dont have any strong opinions for or against stem cell research, I think Morality should be thought of before scientists meddle with such things... for the most part i think that stem cell research is something that should be well thought out and not something that should be used on a whim.

Stem cell research that does not require the destruction of living human beings, embryonic or otherwise, is not a moral issue. the fact that killing living human beings may save the lives of other human beings is irrelevant. the end does not justify the means. IVF is morally unacceptable for the same reason.

Anything done that is good and helps your fellow man is not wrong. I've had problems with this in the past. I think it makes us think of other things possible when used the wrong way. Again if it saved your life, and others and didn't hurt anyone, then it is all good. God was behind this, don't forget to thank Him.
