I am thinking about adopting a kitten from our local MSPCA. Well, I would like your opinions on both male and female kittens. I am thinking on getting a male, as I was told they are more affectionate than females, but I have heard so much on both genders i dont know what to think. You see, I would like a cat that will curl up on your lap and grow very attached to their owner. I've heard this and that, but I want to hear what you think about each genders sort of reputation. Thanks again!

i've typically thought males were much more affectionate, ( i have two male cats) and i just recently got a female kitten. i now think it depends on the personallity of the cat. if you want a real cuddly cat, try looking into the "ragdoll" breed...they are supposedly bread for their temperment and cuddliness.

All of my cats up until my current cat were females, and with few exceptions they are very affectionate and great lap cats. I figured my next cat would be female too.
Then I got adopted by an adult, male, stray. He is very extroverted and friendly but not much of a lap cat. He gives me attention when he wants to and when he wants to be alone, he just walks away.
He is far more independent and free roaming than any female cat I have every owned, but I think this has more to do with his history as a stray.
If I were you, I would go the SPCA with an open mind to getting male or female, kitten or adult. And then just follow your heart and zoom in on cats that displays the personality qualities you are looking for.

Even the word about the genders that doesn't always hold true. I had a male that was the most lovable cat i'd ever seen and loved nothing more than to curl up on my lap and lay with me he followed me around and just was a sweetheart. As i have had females that have been just as lovable. Just when you go see which one attaches to you and which one you feel a bond with no matter the gender. Both can be very very lovable its just getting the one with the right personality. I hope you find what you are looking for and good luck with which ever new kitty you deside to get.

It totally depends upon the cat how affectionate they are, and also how well they connect with you. I have a female cat who is extremely affectionate with me but wants nothing to do with anyone else. In my experience, it's way less about gender and mostly about your connection with them and their personality.
What I do know about male cats is that they tend to wander more, and they spray (though if they are neutered that is less often the case but still possible) to mark their territory.
Mostly though, I'd recommend just meeting the cats and seeing which one(s) you connect with. If they have been there for awhile, the staff may have insight into their personalities to help you out.

From my experience males are more friendly. We have a male and a female, and the male loves EVERYONE,and i mean EVERYONE,but the female is really anti-social and the only person she likes is me!But it really is up to you,you could get a really affectionate and friendly female! It's just the luck of the draw really!Good luck with any potential kitten!

It really depends on the personality of the cat and also YOUR personality as well! If you are a very loving and affectionete person, the cat will kind of take on how you are, and reflect those charictoristics. Cat's are the most independent animals and I love them more than anything. Male cats tend to be a little more rambunctios* (sorry if I misspelled that). And female cats later, tend to be more laid back as they get older. But it trully depends of what environment you provide for them. Good Luck! :)

I am a well experienced person and according to me you should have a female cat as they have a very good mixing qality. As far to my experience male cats become more aggresive after their puberty. So it is better to kkep a female cat.

We've got both, and each one is a completely different individual. I can't say that either gender actually breaks down into the standard cliche.
