Hi Brooke
Well we seem to think they are starring off @ nothing but we have to keep in mind that they have very very heightened senses so when we do not see or hear anything out there 9 times out of 10 there is something there and it is upsetting our faithfull pooches and they are trying to alert you to this fact
I have 7 Pomeranian's and 2 Yorkies and I can defiantly tell the difference between there Nervous barking and them just playing around with each other
So keep in Mind he is not just doing it for something to do there is really something there upsetting him we just do not have all the senses he has to see it
I have learned to be allot more tolerant due to this fact
Take Care

Hello, my canine does that too! I concept he was once barking at nothing, then i spotted he used to be barking at the Christmas tree. He is petrified of it! Dogs have very touchy listening to; probably it's any person external, a squirrel, a cat, possum? Many times puppies additionally bark when they see you're nervous. Be certain he's not barking about whatever else (painful dogs normally barking and crying abruptly). I would double examine outside the home windows and lock the door simply to ensure. I normally puzzled, though... Do puppies sense ghosts?

In all probability,a dog staring at nothing is in fact focusing his ears to listen and understand some sound coming from a distance. If he deciphers the sound as coming from a member of the family, he starts wagging his tail. In case it cannot understand the source,it becomes afraid and barks to shoo away the enemy.
