You can try to find a logical compromise or ... If the fight is just ridicules... in the middle of the fighting try to do something to make the other person laugh, this usually works on my brother who is one year older then me ... we are usually fighting just because we are both stubborn.... the other day he started in on me, I go defensive and bingo a fight, well instead of getting all work up this time when he said his usual junk to get me going I said something that had nothing to do with what he had just said and was just down right silly, like well, yabdabadooo to you to ... instead of getting defensive. Before I know it he was laughing and we had forgotten why we were fighting in the first place. Distraction can be the best way to brake tension.

If you let your brother have his way all the time, he will become insufferably arrogant and feel entitled to do it again and again. You should stand your ground and show your brother that he's not the captain of the ship.
Sometimes it helps to put some space between you so you can both cool off and talk logically instead of yelling at each other.
If your brother is not respecting your privacy and property, you may need to involve your parents or another influential family member.

Its ok to fight as long as it ends without either holding a grudge. The next time your brother says something that makes you want to fight, think about what he is saying before responding and then respond with a question instead of a statement.

Well, I used to have the same problem. The thing I found out is this:
When you are disagreeing about the last piece of cake or something like that, Have your brother CUT the cake, and you CHOOSE the piece. This will force him to cut equal sizes. Another thing, If you see a fight coming on, try to be funny, or comment him. This is what I did, and when you try to be funny you will both become nice to each other. Commenting is good as well, because he will try to be curteous back.
Hope that helped!

It is good that one of the two thought of stopping all the meaning less fights. You can easily make up your mind never to provoke him to fight, not to respond to any fight started by him and then you can ask him to sit and analyze the causes and remedies to such fights. All the fights will stop and none of you should then think that something is missing in life.

my brother and i were the same way, my brother is 2 years older then me. we both are in college now and we see less of each other now. We actually get along better now. His college is 30 minutes away from mine and we see each other once every other week. So w/ time things should get better between the two of you and give each other your space and privacy
