I used to get a bit paranoid about this,I was convinced when I bought my HD ready big flat screen 'thingy' I would see at least 100% better picture!!!
I am assuming you are in the UK?
If so then you don't have any HD signal in the UK, unless you have a separate subscription to sky and have bought the little black box from them at a cost of around £400.
I'm sure you would remember doing that? I certainly would, and if I couldn't see any really vast improvement in quality they would soon be asked for a complete refund.
So I suggest that if you cant see the difference you havent got a HD signal. Simple as that really.

Possible causes:
1) Your TV screen is too small. Under 32" and the human eye can't detect the difference. But then, HDTV wasn't designed for small screens.
2) You don't have an HD television.
3) You do have an HD television, but it's cheap. Cheap HD televisions are little better than a standard TV.
4) You do have an HD television, but you are not feeding it with an HD signal.

Are you using a HDMI cable to feed to your television from the HD source? Are you even using an HD source. If you watch standard definition sources on a HDTV, then you will not see too much of a difference. EVERYTHING has to be in HD; the source (cable channel, game unit, Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, etc), the connection (do not use anything lower than a HDMI cable), and the TV itself.

I have Sky HD and a Samsung 32" HD LCD TV and the HD picture and sound quality is far superior. Especially on BBC HD, History HD channels etc.

You need an HDTV and need to be viewing a HD broadcast. If you still can't see any difference, maybe this technology is a waste of money for you. My mother is the same with stereo TV sound, she can't hear the difference, oddly.
I can't quite see those "magic eye" pictures. It's a conspiracy!

I agree that you cant really see the difference between an HD broadcast but I think there is a massive difference in picture quality between the old (tubed) televisions and Plasma and LCD televisions.

I was under the impression that HD television hasn't really arrived yet, which is why we see adverts for 'HD ready'.
If anyone is thinking of buying a HD television, I would wait. They will come down in price and the technology will improve.

if you look very closely, you will see that regular programming is a bit grainy. HDTV removes that graininess and gives you a crisp and clear view of the show
