This is basically impossible to answer from a religious viewpoint - mostly because religious beliefs are all rubbish.
If you wanted a real answer you'd have headed over to biology but since I'm here I'll have a go.
The question is flawed because it implies something 'comes to life' - as if nothing was there before, that's just not how it is. I think what religious people really want to know is when the 'soul' arrives... I have an opinion about that.
Both the spermatocyte and the oocyte are LIVING cells. You could argue that conception is when the sperm gets inside the oocyte or you could say its when the fertilised cell undergoes mitosis.

Here's how I define fertilization:
See the really hard-core people will tell you that life begins at
fertilization. Fertilization, when the sperm fertilizes the egg. Which is
usually a few moments after the man says "Gee honey, I was going to pull out
but the phone rang and it startled me."
Fertilization. But even after the egg is fertilized, it's still 6 or 7 days
before the egg reaches the uterus, and pregnancy begins, and not every egg
makes it that far! 80% of a woman's fertilized eggs are rinsed and flushed
out of her body once a month during those delightful few days she has. They
wind up on sanitary napkins, and yet they are fertilized eggs! So basically
what these anti-abortion people are telling us is that any woman who's had
more than 1 period is a serial killer!
Consistency. Consistency. Hey, hey, if they really want to get serious
what about all the sperm that are wasted when the state executes a condemned
man and one of these pro-life guys who's watching cums in his pants, huh?
Here's a guy standing over there with his jockey shorts full of little
'Vinnies' and 'Debbies', and nobody's saying a word to the guy! Not every
ejaculation deserves a name!

Is it okay if I don't agree with either the religionists or the scientists?
There is no such thing as independent life that 'begins' in my opinion.
At conception, the life force of two existing beings extends into a new form. This is similar to when simple cells split, or when you hit a worn with a sharp-edged rock and the two halves wriggle off in different directions. Some types of life can survive independently, and some can't.
Some life forms never survive independently. If you cut off a toe, it doesn't start an independent existence, either by growing into another human or being a toeguy all by itself. But your toe is definitely alive as long as it is attached to you. Same with a fetus. It is an extension of life that can't survive on its own until it makes that big journey to the outside, and then it is an independent life form, with a separate existence.
This seems so simple to me. Why is it so complicated to everyone else, except as it involves control over people, their lives, money and thinking?

I personally think conception is defined as wwhen the sperm enters the egg.
When does life start?
realistically, it alread exists at the sub-egg AND the sub-sperm levels (even bacteria that eventull makes us up is life).
Maybe the big ques. is when does INTELLIGENT life for humans start (its a gradual process thruout the 9 months.
when is a human created? at birth? yes.
But everybody's answer is jus as good as evryone else's (& religion should bud out!, cause no one cold know for sure!!!)
But we'll run into real trouble the day scientists can bring an organism to full birth from the very point of conception,...& evenetuall even at the point of not needing asperm or egg!

Conception is usually right after the man says "Sorry honey, I was going to pull out but the phone rang and it startled me", and then the cigarette is lit. A few hours later, the sperm hits the egg and bang, it's like a chromosome square dance.
As for when life begins; I say that live began a billion years ago and its a continuous process. But a person's life really begins when they graduated med school...LOL

Many believe it's when sperm connects with the ova . That , of course , doesn't make sense . The Ova and sperm are both live organisms . Real life begins as either is formed .

Strictly speaking conception is fertilization of the egg by the sperm. Some people think conception is the twinkle in either the man's or woman's eye before copulation. They're wrong.
IMO, life starts at gestation or birth, not conception.

Fertilization is when sperm meets egg. Life begins at birth when the baby is viable

Oh boy. ok, here goes. Fertilization is when sperm meets egg. Conception is when fertilized egg implants itself in the uterus.
I have no idea when "life" starts. I don't really worry about that.

A few months after birth, a child gets enough impressions to begin to have a personality, and you can then say a human animal has been conceived.
