A quick response to the post from "Kilroy" above....
You guys call us your "personal taxi service" until you get pinned down in a firefight and have to call in our close air support. Kilroy, have you ever been in a firefight and had to rely on the Air Force to save your life and the lives of your comrades? Most of the Army guys I know that have employed CAS, especially with our A-10's, don't call us their "personal taxi service", they say something more to the lines of, "when we were in the ****, thank GOD for the A-10's!".
Now, for my response to the question. The Army is almost entirely moved into theater by Air Force cargo aircraft (C-17, C-5, C-130, etc.) or by ground convoy after a commercial flight dropping the troops just outside the AOR (an example would be flying commercial to lets say Kuwait, and then taking military convoy to your firebase or air base in-country). The Air Force (again) is saving Army lives by increasing it's in country flights to Iraq with cargo aircraft, due to so many soldiers being KIA by convoy attacks and IED's.

Usually by plane. The Army considers the Air Force its personal taxi service.
Jay...HAHAHAH take a joke, flyboy.
Yes I've been in a firefight or two, but no I have never had AF close air-support in those fights. My tours were both in Baghdad and large scale airstrikes in the city cause too much collaterial damage so they aren't very common.
Most of the air support I've experienced has been helo in nature or using UAVs. Not everyone has the same experiences and by no means do I consider mine typical...since you asked. I have done training with A-10s, but they were Army A-10s (yep, we have them too).
You are still a member of Uncle Sam's Taxi Service and we love you for it. Even if you had saved my a** from afar, I'd probably still give you crap for not being shoulder to shoulder with me in the first place.

The Army flies commercial or Air force aircraft. The Marines fly the same way and sometimes float over on special Navy ships made for them and their equipment.
