The Beagle is a great dog. I have four dogs, a Beagle, a Chi/Rat Terrier mix and two Pit Bulls. They are all house dogs and sleep on my bed with me. I have a dog door so they have free access to the house. All the dogs get along great. They are always chasing each other through the house. The Beagle is not the first one to bark at any noise, he is the last one. But when he goes off the hound bay is something you notice. When he wants me to scratch his chest he will put his paw on my hand and pull on it.
On top of everything else he is the clown of the family.

The popular Beagle is a small, pack oriented hunting hound. Although its natural instinct is to hunt, it is highly adaptable and adjusts happily to a suburban backyard, as long as it has regular exercise to keep it fit while providing it with a change of scene and scent, and company - either human or another Beagle.
Friendly, playful and eager to please, the Beagle can be willful. Possessed of great stamina, determination and a definite mind of its own, this picturesque and personality-plus little hound has a tendency to roam. Beagles require a well fenced yard and firm, patient handling.
The Beagle is lively, active and extremely intelligent, making a devoted friend and companion. Hardy and resilient, it can be happily kept as either a house or a kennel dog. Beagles have a short, dense, weatherproof coat which comes in many attractive colorings, and requires very little grooming. Beagles tend to keep themselves extremely clean.

I love Beagles, I had a bench-leg Beagle and he was the coolest dog. Beagles are very smart, they are loyal and loving. They get bored easily though, and their noses can get them into trouble, if they smell something interesting, they will go to all kinds of great lengths to get it! They require a large area to run and I think they get along well with other dogs as long as you socialize them.
The cons of having a beagle are they are LOUD when they howl, so you have to make sure they're happy or your neighbors will be upset with you!
I think Beagles are great dogs though and would highly recommend them!

If you do get one, you should consider a shelter first. You'll be saving a life, and money, too. Just look here for your state to see if any are near you. :)

Huge mistake!!! All they do is bark and howl. Your be going crazy. They don't listen at all. If one gets away at a park, the stupid dog just keeps running. I seen a program with the police dept. The officer said sit sit sit sit sit sit , he said these dogs don't listen at all. It's so true. Next your find your neighbor is gonna hurt you or the dog. All they do is bark and howl!!
