A very Nihilist way to look at the religion situation, but a good view. Religion does open up alot of weak points in a government and in life as a whole. Personally I am Athiest; I don't believe in any kind of higher power other than humans themselves. Unfortunately humans ARE controlled by greed and want and desire, which is a fact that we cannot change.
As far as removing religion as a whole from international society, I don't see that happening. There are countries in the world that would gladly run a plane into a building for their god, Allah. Dedication like that cannot simply be removed. However, if we all work together in order to attain what China has had for lifetimes now, Humanism, we would be closer to a perfect union. The only way to achieve that would be not to silence any religious hub-bub, but to just stop acknowledging religion altogether. Out of sight out of mind. Wash your hands of it, and never ask for a security blanket, we aren't children.
"Religion is the opiate of the masses."

Hello Eric,
Well, people don't merely "believe" in God the way they do "Santa Claus". In fact, history shows the idea of "Santa Claus" was actually a morphing of the historicity of an actual, real person, Saint Nicholas. St. Nicholas was a real man who made toys for the poor children in an orphanage. The "spirit" of 'St. Nick' was one of unselfish giving and love. That's the thing to propagate not the guy in the red suit who is all about department stores.
God is a personality you can KNOW. I realize you don't believe me, but God is real; some stories about God are myths just like the red suit guy. People who think God is magic and the afterlife is one of magical mystical bliss are not really getting the whole story.
Sometime, if you are ever interested in getting the whole story, check out The Urantia Book on God, and do a little research about the real Saint Nicholas.
You might enjoy that.
OH, and I agree you won't get rid of religion because with God being infinite and eternal, the more you discover and know God, the more you know about God and of God the more there is to still discover. He is immense and so is the universe of universes. It's real, too.
But of course, you seem to only want to have earth to think about; and not the idea that there is more out there than we think, that it's a mechanistic universe all a big bang accident with no purpose except to live for your own sake?? Ok then.

Well, attacking others' beliefs usually doesn't help to "rid the world of religion." Maybe a logically convincing argument framed in more respectful way would help to dispell myths and assure people that science will eventually solve all our spiritual issues would be a start. But for the time being (there's a god for you, the "Time Being"), many people would be dangerous if religion was suddenly gone - the jails, prisons, and mental hospitals are full of people who don't believe good behavior is an end in itself, and I suspect the churches are packed with like-minded folks. Time (remember?) will do the job, though...

Humans, ever since the beginning of time, have always tried to classify things by superiority. There is one supreme being, then there are the humans, then there are the animals, then insects, then bacteria, then dirt, etc. I'm personally Aethist, and a new age is coming where kids aren't as religious as their anscestors... So the time is coming where the world will realte to science instead of god. But sometimes it just instinctive to relate to God in time of need.
Religion is actually made-up. All of it. Baptism, Jesus, Mary, Mahamed, all of that, is all made-up. Because we never saw any of them, or heard any of them. Or had anythign else to prove their existence. Just firghtening coincendences. When we die, we decompose. Back into the dirt where we came for. Religion is something that gives everything an explanation. When humans don't understand someting, they use religion ot explain it. Nowadays, it is not as true. But be careful when talking abotu religion, it is a very debateable subject. I hope this sheds some light on your question.

I think you forgot one important thing if we rid the world of religion we rid the world of war. I don't think it is a matter of being weak minded. Religion offers people seen as good emotions. Hope, faith, determination, strength, pride, purpose, belief etc. So in someone needing these emotions does not necessary make them weak in the 1st place. I bet your the kind of person who sees quietness or not fighting as a weakness? Religion is just a means to conduct your life to a purpose and feel a sense of worth. It is not a matter of being weak minded but religion is seen as a means to help the weak minded. Beleif is belief that is everyone's right to their own purpose. All life needs a purpose otherwise life wouldn't have been given to you or still be with you. Be it from a religious or sceintific viewpoint.

the world will never be rid of religion and as for Death.....hard talking about something you may not have experienced..so you say you don't believe in GOD...that when you die you die..I feel sad for you...there is another place that we go to when we pass... I have seen a glimpse of it...was almost there then brought back (3 times to be exact)...the light was warm and bright..believe what you want you are entitled to your opinion..but let me say this even if there was no GOD what would be worse... to believe in GOD and try and live a life for him or to not believe in GOD to find out in the end there is a GOD and you are going to meet Satan for eternity?

It seems to me that belief in 'God' has little to do with the things you noted. People can go to church on their sabbath and still be all of those things the rest of the week. There is an old song 'Walk on the Wild Side' whose lyrics say 'One day of praying, Six nights of fun, chances of going to heaven: six to one'.
And 'heaven' means many different things in the major religions of the world...not all of which believe in 'pie in the sky when you die'. For instance, among Buddhists, one must reincarnate until one has overcome the many selfish greeds/lusts/desires of the flesh and becomes a buddha oneself.
People only know what they have been taught. They come into the world knowing only selfishness....feed ME, help ME, clean ME, etc. All parents know toddlers love the words ME, MINE and NO - the world revolves around ME, ME, ME. Unfortunately, there are many people who never get past that stage.
It would seem, that you can only begin with yourself. One must do the very best one can to be a positive influence on those around you, but especially be the best you possible. Religion is for those who desire it to improve themselves.
If it is not your 'path', then you must find your own true self and your own way to travel it.
Do not criticize others for what you perceive to be untrue. Walk your own path, with your head held high.

We cannot rid the world of religion, we just have to deal with it. It may cause many of the problems in the world, but a lot of people need something to cling to to make their life worth living. A lot of people think that they are put here on earth to please god, etc. I think it is something that has evolved to keep some people from losing their minds by questioning the meaning of life. It gives them a safe place...like a security blanket :)

Okay-everyone knows they aren't going to live forever. No one can rid the world of religion because there are too many people in the world who believe in different things. You have your opinion, and everyone else has their's. Don't try to make everyone upset with you. You don't know what happens when you die unless you're actually dead.

If that is what you believe thats ok, but don't ask us all to convert to your way of thinking you have raised too many arguments for me to even try and correct.
I believe that you don't believe this does not make you a bad person in my eyes. And I am far from weak or fragile when it comes to my own beliefs its the little voice you call conscious that helps me believe if you listen it usually stirs you to the right thing to do. Isn't it amazing we have it and animals don't.
