I have an Onkyo TX-SR601 receiver. I have a PS3 hooked up to my panel via HDMI with the audio running straight to my Onk via optical. 360 w/add-on hooked up via component with optical audio direct to the receiver as well. Do I get lossless with this set up or do I need a HDMI receiver?

The lossless tracks sound better, but they also sound better when I watch them in my bedroom on my Toshiba a2 witch is hooked up via component with no audio receiver. AKA just TV speakers.

HDMI and S/pdif both support lossless and compressed audio .
For multi-channel lossless audio you need HDMI.

hi Bionict? the excellent audio report extention is the .WAV form at 1411 Kbps. The .Mp3 extention is a compressed version of a .WAV. in case you like sturdy sound with .Mp3 it must be at 320 Kbps. take word that all and sundry song extentions are originated from .WAV form. A .Mp3 can't be made except there's a .wav in touch interior the conversion technique, each and every so often it relatively is hidden. as an occasion take the .Wma extention, it contains .avi and .wav varieties. in case you like greater infos, submit it here and deliver me a mail to tell me. i'm going to edit my answer so the community can examine it ! sturdy luck
