i think i have a dieing tooth/abscess and my gum swells every once in awhile and drains puss, i cant afford to go to a dentist so i have to just deal with it, is this life threatening or anything like that?

does anyone know the estimated cost, for a low income person with no insurance, for lets say removal of the tooth i dont think it can be saved, but maybe.

This is a nearly free way to heal your gums.
Go to the drug store and buy a pint or a quart of HYDROGEN
PEROXIDE. I have used it 40 years and it it totally safe .
It is frequently on a bottom shelf near alcohol. It is about $1.00 a quart.
Take a mouthful and gently brush with a soft toothbrush about 3 times a day. It will bubble the infection out of your gums and heal them. After brushing and rinsing take a tiny bit more in your mouth and let it set for a minute or so then spit it out.
It gives me a stomach ache if I accidentally swallow it. It will kill pain in just a minute or two. But plan on doing this daily for at least a week to heal the gums thoroughly.
Good Luck this should heal your gums completely even down to the roots. Once they are healed, brush (with the Hydrogen peroxide) and floss daily ..
DO NOT NEGLECT YOUR TEETH AND GUMS. FLOSSING IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.
I am from a family with poor teeth and this has saved all of mine.

The pain will eventually force you to go by which time it is likely you will lose the tooth. If you see a Dentist now you can get some antibiotics and hopefully arrange a Root Canal Treatment to be carried out which will eliminate the infection, swelling and pain and save your tooth.
There is no other way round it.

Can you afford a regular doctor visit? A course of antibiotics would help. Check your area for a dental school. They do work at greatly reduced or free rates. Please give it a try. While this isn't life threatening yet, it could potentially cause a systemic infection that would be. Also, gargle with salt water, or dilute peroxide. It may help some of the superficial infection.

you can go to a dental college for reduced fees. i live in toronto, tooth extraction normally costs around $80-100 in dental offices. i don't know how you are dealing with the pain because i experienced one not too long ago. it will be more costly if you get a root canal. it's somewhere around $600-900, plus the cost of crown - around $900. you'll be prescribed by the dentist antibiotics for a week before he/she can treat you.

Its VERY rare but people have died from abscessed teeth. Would you think it was no big deal if you had pus draining from your eye or your ear?
