I've used online translators to try and translate 'rollercoasters' into French, but I keep getting 'montagnes russes' (which translates back into English as 'Russian mountains')
Is this correct or am I missing something?

it's "montagnes russes" or "grand huit" (large eight)
but for an image of "emotional hurricane" as "rollercoaster" you can say 'une tempête d'émotions' 'un tourbillon d'émotions' depending on the intensity of the 'emotional storm'.
tempête is storm
tourbillon is whirly

As far as I know, they're montagnes russes, yes, and yes it is literally Russian mountains.

That shows the limit of translation sites when things have a name that comprises separate words with their own meaning.
It worked going into French but not coming back.
(Though whoever got rouleau caboteur had the same problem going into French !).

caboteur de rouleau is what I got from the translation site.
I think its just "tours" as in "rides"
