I have a DVD player with Progressive Scan sockets at the rear (phono type) and my LCD TV has Progressive scan sockets, VGA Socket and an HDMI socket. What i was wondering is that is there a cable or adaptor on the market that has male progressive phono plugs one end and a HDMI plug the other end or male progressive phono plugs one end a VGA plug the other end and would I get better pictures going progressive to HDMI rather than progressive to progressive? Thanks.
Andy.

INTERESTING QUESTION!

The simple answer is: "No there is not." The color-coded (red-green-blue RCA) "component video" jacks on the back of both the DVD player and the TV are your best way to hook up for Progressive DVD watching.

HOWEVER, for not much above $100, you can now buy an "upconverting" DVD player that WILL convert standard progressive DVDs into HDMI and allow you LCD-TV to display something that approaches high definition (but isn't quite).

Here's what I see as the "ultimate logic" in the situation:

For about the cost of the kind of cables and adaptors you were willing to buy to make your question come true, you could get this new DVD player (I recommend Samsung's or Panasonic's) and breathe new life into your DVD collection.

On an HDTV its amazing how good standard DVDs can look, - and for my money, I don't see the justification for buying a Blu-ray or HD-DVD player and the more expensive discs when such a fine result can be had for much less $$.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Converting signals like that will only lead to more signal degradation. To have the best video quality, you need to keep the signals in its original format.

On your DVD player, you will have component RCA outputs (red, green, blue). You want to use component connectors on your DVD and TV.

If you really want to convert component to higher formats such as HDMI and VGA, then you will need to spend a few hundred dollars on a converter box. It takes more tha a cable to do this. There is analog/digital video processing required.
